Loving Life after 50

As Visions of Red Appliances Dance in my head

It is that time of year again, the holiday season where I start baking like crazy and again I pull out my 1972 Sunbeam Mixer and remember I need a Kitchen Aid.  I am serious here folks I really, really need a KitchenAid Mixer, a big shiny candy apple red mixer.Something like this baby would be perfect and I will love you forever.

Not asking for much am I?? OK seriously folks when I start my Christmas baking I probably make 12-15 types of cookies and squares and I still use an antique mixer ( and I can say this honestly because I saw the same mixer in an antique store in September, remember that story?) And while we are on the topic of need I really could need a new stainless steel oven and fridge… OK maybe that’s not a need but it is a want. My kitchen could use a bit of a steel spruce up.

OK, I know that may seem a little excessive but on a more realistic note I do need the Red Keurig,  I have the black/steel one but this red baby would go so very, very nicely on my cupboard and then of course it needs the matching blender right?? and then truly what self respecting lover of holidays doesn’t need a Marguerita machine??? Well I know I do.. and my holiday party and all the guests would be much appreciative.

Come on Folks a little pity here OK…this is from the antique store,

This is mine in use making cookies last year:

I know, I know it is supposed to be that time of year we think of others and I really should focus more on Kent’s needs not my own all the time but dang he is a tough one, to quote him directly ” I don’t need anything, I have everything I need”  Seriously what on the heck are you supposed to do about that?? Every year I search high and low, not for something he thinks he wants or needs but for that something special that will make him just go WOW.  Last year we said no gifts and instead gave each other tickets to the Autozone Liberty Bowl in Memphis with a shopping trip on the way back ( now that was awesome)  This year we are heading to Charlotte and the Belk Bowl but we are allowed to spend some money on each other, so back to the drawing board for me, what can I get that would be special?? Well I think I found it,  Truly I mean it, I really do think I found it, have you heard of Man Crates? Their Motto is:

We say ‘no’ to ugly neckties, cologne samplers and executive trinkets. We don’t save wrapping paper, we don’t do ribbons.

We ship bragworthy gifts for guys. Gifts that you can’t wait to arrive because you know the recipient will love opening them.
Gifts that people gather round at the office, people following the sounds of wood being torn from wood by the included, laser-engraved crowbar.
We are Man Crates, and we deliver awesome gifts for men

And it really is true gifts for men in a crate, geared for the special guy in your life, arrives in a crate with its own crowbar, its own friggin crowbar and if that is not totally cool, you should see what comes in the crates. I have it narrowed down to four awesome possibilities, each with special meaning…
The Whiskey Connoisseur Crate was just a couple proofs away from being named The Whiskey Sean Connerysseur Crate.Enjoying these snacks and sauces are akin to tongue-lapping the flames of Hades.Image 1We've got no shortcuts to sell you to improve your game, but we have gathered a few awesome items that make any golf outing more fun.
Gotta admit The Whisky Kit is fascinating, seriously a whisky aerator, how cools is that, and it matches our two wine aerators…these are just four of the crates they offer..if you have a guy in your life that like Kent doesn’t NEED anything but one that you want to spoil juts a bit you should check it out, in the meantime after I figure out what to get Kent you will find me back in the Kitchenware section dreaming of small red appliances..

  • Linda, you NEED this KitchenAid mixer! I have this exact one, the color is called 'Empire Red' and I saved for it and bought it on deep discount at Macy's and then got a coupon for a $50 rebate. I love that thing so much, it is one of the best kitchen appliances I ever bought and it is a joy to use! I hope you will gift it to yourself, you sound like a serious baker and while I appreciate the charm of your vintage mixer, the baker in me votes you get a KitchenAid! Do it! XO, Jill

    • I so hear you and I have been dreaming about this baby since I found out I would not need to hold the hand mixer for 15 minutes when making whipped shortbread,

  • When you use red wine aerators, depending on the style, you will either place it on top of the glass or decanter, or you will hold it above the glass. The vino flows through, and it is introduced to the air. The oxygen weaves through the liquid, releasing its true taste and character. The best part? It only takes a few moments. As soon as the it cascades down the sides and the curve of the glass, it's ready to enjoy.
