The Magic Hour

magic hour for photos
What exactly is the magic hour and does it really make a difference, a few questions I have always thought about… Wikipedia tells me In photography, the golden hour (sometimes known as magic hour, especially in cinematography) is a period shortly after sunrise or before sunset during which daylight is redder and softer compared to when the Sun is higher in the sky.
So lately I have been noticing that at 7:00 A.M the sun is quite bright and hits my driveway casting a very bright shadow, so bright in fact that no amount of editing can take away the glare ( OK not in my limited scope) Even the best of shots are somewhat not great…. so either I need a lesson in manual focus and white light or whatever one else might think I need to be taught or saving the money needed for professional lessons, I need to start taking pictures at a different time.

These three were not bad but I def look a bit pink and I promise I did not get a sunburn this weekend.
and for the next picture well
this is why you need to take your Christmas Lights down when the season is over, either that or someone is ” calling me home”…..

My first set of pictures taken at 7:00 a.m. may have a few lighting issues but good lord folks I cannot get up any earlier for pictures, this girl loves her sleep, so I thought I would try 7:30 P.M. not quite the other magic hour but pretty close and darn it, yep way softer light.. the only downside is the hair. seriously after a long day plus some time outside in the wind the hair is not as great as when I started the day.

So no question lighting and time of day really does make a difference so now I will have to figure out what the heck do I do.. but that is my worry not yours.   From an outfit perspective a few old pieces, wearing my Joe Fresh Sundress with my Old Navy Linen Blazer. Threw on my Shoe Dazzle yellow signature pumps ( and converse for traveling) and a yellow necklace ( Amazon) and of course my Jord Watch C/O

  • I am all about lighting!! Even if I don't look particularly cute, I will still take advantage of good light if it is available.

Interesting and new concept to me! I'd rather go with before sunset then since I would be snoring still a bit after sunrise 🙂

  • You can get a camera filter that can help with the light issue. I have 2 of them that we use to take photo's. I love the pop of yellow.

Also I give you a lot of credit for taking photo's at 7:30 am. At that time I lately going to bed because of my crazy night work schedule.

Hello princess of yellow. I love that dress and the blazer too. The retro look is just as nice. And yes I do believe there is a magic hour or two. =)

Someone is calling you home…lol! The lighting situation is a tough one. In the summer I have the luxury of taking pictures when I want and during the spring and fall the timing is just right for pictures when I get home from work. But winter is a huge issue…once it starts getting dark early it's a huge challenge.

I agree that taking photos in a pain to find that perfect spot. I only can do pictures in the morning so I try to find the spot with the most shade and that seems to work. Loving your pretty dress!

I know the time of day and where the sun is (or isn't) makes a difference, but I don't often get it right! Nice pictures, even the Christmas lights!!! I love yellow it is my favorite, esp for accessories or tees. Looks nice on you!

  • Lighting is the toughest part for me too! Especially because everyday seems to be different. When it's really sunny, I try to find a bit of shade which usually helps!

  • mark a.

you look very pretty in this outfit! i like it with either set of shoes!
