Pear Hazelnut Gnocchi with Greens

Pear Hazelnut Gnocchi with Greens
This weekend Fall seemed to arrive and with that Kent decided to resume our Saturday Evening Dinners.  For a long time Saturdays were Kent’s create in the kitchen occasion. He would spend hours, actually all day preparing four course meals for us to sample. ( and I wonder why I am no longer a size zero)

I love bringing back family traditions, I mean honestly its ok to call our Saturday Dinners a tradition right?  Truly it was a time of food orgasms, decadent desserts, sumptuous salads and oh the entrees…
Kent would scour the magazines and recipe books and each week try to out do himself.  A salad , a soup, an entree and dessert,. Eventually I did take over the dessert task, not a hardship I assure you.  One of our favourite sources was the Ontario LCBO Food and Wine Magazine.  Well this week, inspiration hit and when Kent saw the Pear Hazelnut Gnocchi, he knew it was meant to be.
Kent had already decided to cook a Pork Loin so the Gnocchi seemed to be the perfect accent ( side) dish.  Plus hello Gnocchi anytime for this Irish Gal. Potato Pasta was made for me.

He takes his prep work very seriously but notice, unlike me he does not appear to need an apron. The meal was decadent and delicious and shockingly only took a short time to prepare.
We got home from an day at the Apple Orchard and then several hours trying to pick out paint for the bathroom and still had dinner on the table by 7:00.
Had to grab a shot of the gnocchi in the cream sauce, cant you just smell the fresh garlic and cream wafting through your computer……

The recipe calls for the chopped hazelnuts ( now called filberts in grocery stores FYI) to be sprinkled on each serving and Kent decided to also use some fresh grated Parmesan.

Delicious, filling and one I am going to try again.  The Gnocchi was perfect with the Pork but also would be lovely on its own.  We skipped dessert this time because hello, filling dinner but Mandarin Orange Salad for an app was the perfect compliment.

  • Your choice of ingredients are so great! This sounds like a sophisticated version of comfort food. You could pair this up with almost any meat. Don't forget to set aside dinner rolls or French bread to sop up the good stuff on your plate!
