Tee Shirt Making as a Craft Idea
If you want to save money by making some of your kids clothes, but you aren’t all that keen on taking up knitting, why not give some at-home tee shirt printing a go. The standard fruit of the loom plain colored tee shirts are ridiculously cheap. Buy in bulk to save even more money and to practise on to help you hone your skills. Bespoke printed tee shirts are all the rage nowadays so you’ll be tapping into the zeitgeist as well.
My sister has gone T Shirt crazy over the last few years, creating awesome designs. My Reindeer shirt was a knock off of one that was sold out at American Eagle. I could not find my size so she made me one.
Ensure that you have all of the equipment you need like a beginners heat press, some stencils, cutting tools, tee shirt paints and the tee shirts themselves. You can choose to use readymade stencils or have a go at constructing some yourself. Try and keep the designs simple and chunky at first.
The more detail that you add, the more difficult it is to get a high quality finished product. Go for large lettering initially or some block shapes before moving onto more intricate designs. When you have applied the paint to your material, it’s time to whip your tee shirt into the heat press. The heat will be applied for a set time and will fix the paint onto the tee shirt, creating an incredible personalized product. My supply of Band Shirts is unlimited now.
3 Craft Ideas- Paper Cutting
If you love more intricate crafts, paper cutting could be for you. You need some paper cutting knives of varying thicknesses, a cutting board, some space, some card of varying thicknesses and colors and some pencils. Overlaying the different colored cards can create some effects that create different depths of fields.
Use some templates online initially to get a feel for the paper cutting. These often use stencils to help guide your cutting. Freehand designs are fun but they require a lot of skill. You can use your paper cutting skills to create greetings cards, artwork or portraits. Then transfer your card cutting skills to utilize alternative materials to create different effects. You might even use a mixed media approach.
I went crazy on the paper wall flowers this summer.
Craft Idea- Painting
If you fancy a more traditional artistic craft, you could always give painting a go. You can use watercolors to create landscapes or you could use acrylic paints to have a go at some more graphic or modern art pieces. Be creative and let your imagination run wild to generate some wall art for your living room or some canvas paintings to experiment with.
Don’t forget tole-painting either. A craft I do for a long time. I use to take small crafts and paints on the road with me. Relaxing while on the road for work Tole painting. I think I need to take that hobby back up again.
Have a go at some of these awesome crafts to help lift your mood, to give you a new creative outlet and to have some fun in your free time.
