stay young pin

Tomorrow is my Birthday so of course Age is on my mind. Getting old is obviously going to happen but do I really have to “be old”. Ageing happens to us all, but that doesn’t mean you can’t look and feel young for as long as possible. There are plenty of things that you can do to keep looking and feeling youthful, and energized. Here’s how you can keep feeling young for as long as you can.

In honour of turning 57 I thought I might share a few stay young tips.  I do like to think I look pretty good for a Boomer.

Protect Yourself From The Sun

Whenever you go outside, you must wear a sunscreen with an SPF rating of at least 30, even if it isn’t sunny. Make sure that the SPF you wear is broad-spectrum. This means it will protect you from both UVA and UVB rays

. No matter what the weather is like, there are always UV rays. UV causes damage to your skin, so you need to protect it. Put on more sunscreen every few hours that you are outside so your skin stays safe.

Sun damage is one of the main things that causes a lot of the main visible signs of aging. UV rays break down elasticin, which is what keeps your skin elastic and taut. When this happens, the skin starts to look dull and saggy. Skin tone becomes more uneven, causing wrinkles and age spots. This damage can start to happen a while before you notice it, so prevention is better than cure.

True confession I shield my face and use a “sun glow” moisturizer.  Having that sun kissed look makes me feel better but I do know that I need to be cautious. Wish I had realized that little nugget when I was 18.

Adopt A Skin Care Regimen

Skincare is a great way to stay looking young. Your skincare routine should start with a gentle exfoliating cleanser to buff away dead skin. Put on a moisturizer to hydrate your skin to keep it looking plump. This helps to reduce the appearance of fine lines.

Look for products with ingredients like green tea extracts, vitamins A, C and E, hyaluronic acid. These all protect your skin from free-radicals, boost your collagen levels, and keep your skin’s moisture levels high. Reduce the appearance of fine lines with Wrinkles Schminkles eye patches on the eyes, and lose those crow’s feet.

Drink Plenty Of Water

If you want to stay looking younger naturally, then you should try to drink six to eight glasses of water every day to keep your body healthy and your skin looking bright and supple.

Being properly hydrated is the best skincare there is. When you are dehydrated, your skin becomes dry and wrinkled. When you’re well-hydrated, your tissues and skin cells get replenished. This keeps your skin looking younger and brighter.

Stay Physically Active

You ought to be active every day. Regular exercise slows aging down, as exercise increases the blood flow around the body. Proper blood flow moves oxygen and nutrients to the working cells in your body, including your skin cells, making you look brighter and more youthful.

Exercise is also linked to other essential functions like maintaining muscle mass and strength, maintaining brain volume in the areas that impact motor control, lessening menopause symptoms, maintaining memory, and keeping brain function healthy. All of these add up to improved brain function as you get older, and can add a lot of healthy years to your life.

Do you follow stay young tips?  Have you adapted any new habits or routines?  Skin care I am religious about. I believe I have maintained a proper routine since my early 20’s. The exercise bit on the other hand I need to get better at, and the water well that I need to really step up my game.

What tips and tricks have you incorporated?  Any hints for the almost Birthday Gal?
