Ever wish you could sleep like a cat? Curl up anywhere and everywhere and just completely tune out the world. Just think how healthy and happy we would all be!
I am sick again, with another cold! Big SURPRISE people, now it is pretty clear why I am suffering from a major cold again. ( and I mean suffering) plus its a double suffer because I really, really wanted to start decorating for Christmas, but I could barely even function so that was a no go for me. Big piece of advise, DO NOT OVEREXTEND YOURSELF and maybe stay away from Red Eye flights where you are guaranteed not to get your seven to eight hours sleep ( more like two maybe).
Did you know that while you’re sleeping your immune system produces cytokines, which help fight off inflammation and common infections? We know that getting a good seven to eight hours of sleep is not always easy but is necessary to keep our bodies healthy. Sometimes, people don’t even realize that that they’re not sleeping as well as they could be. Being that November is Sleep Comfort month, I thought I would help bring awareness to the hurdles that prevent you from sleeping and provide some possible solutions on how to overcome those
I seriously think it is an age thing ( at least for me) I was always the “never had any trouble sleeping anywhere” type of person and then my 50’s hit and I sometimes have awful nights but I have learnt a few tricks along the way.
1) Don’t toss and turn, the minute you start getting restless in bed, get up, go lay somewhere else, go read a few pages of a book but change your setting ( tossing will just get worse). For me I head to one of the other bedrooms and find that the change in surroundings helps my mind relax, I fall asleep and then if I happen to wake up I head back to my room.
2) With Age has come this concept of HEAT I still cant get use to it, I spent my whole life cold so waking up to hot is quite disturbing, in more ways than one, hard to cool down ( I have a gel pillow and it is the bomb, I tell you as long as I keep my face cool I am golden ( oh yea and I keep the house at 15 C at night lol)
3) leave the phone downstairs, did you know the light from your electronics stimulates activity so not the best for unwinding.
4) Maybe you shouldn’t watch that horror show before bed ( or even the news for me). Find a light hearted book and read a few pages, just to help turn your brain off. Trust me don’t pick up that mystery book and then expect to fall asleep.
I teamed up with Casper (who created one perfect mattress) this month ( you know it is the month for sleeping) and thought I would share a few of their tips as well. Big disclaimer the first three do not apply to me, I am actually the culprit so I am printing this list off for Kent.
Sleep well folks and let me know if any of these tips help ( I did try the lavender and it did help sooth the nerves but for this weekend nothing was helping me, darn cold as a result of no sleep)
How ironic is it that not getting a good night’s sleep for a few days can leave you susceptible to illness that in turn will make sure you do not get a good sleep, Life’s irony for sure
(PS I was not paid for this post I just really felt it was important to share good sleep habits especially this month)

I have not had a good nights sleep in over 4 years. I feel like an infant that has their days and nights mixed up. My mind and body do not want to sleep at night, but I cannot stay awake during the day. I feel like I am missing out on so much of my girls childhood because all I want to do is sleep. My dr tried me on Ambien, even that did not work. Add hot flashes and night sweats, I am a big ol mess.

I hope you get to feeling better really soon. I did know about the overextending yourself/myself and its effects on the immune system and the older I get it seems worse. Hope you are back to yourself soon.

I love using lavender on my temples as a way to relax at night. Great tips!
