Everybody feels self-conscious about their appearance from time to time. Of course, many of us also experience moments of great confidence. Perhaps you look in the mirror from time to time and appreciate your outfit and how you are looking. Or perhaps you have the occasional “great hair day”. Still, it can be hard to feel confident about your appearance on a regular basis. It’s far too easy to be self-critical and pick out numerous flaws when you look in the mirror. We all do it. So, let’s talk about how you could start feeling confident about all aspects of your appearance.
Appreciate Your body.
There is no ideal body type. No matter how many times we’re told that, however, we’ll tell ourselves that we don’t have the right body type. The key to feeling confident about your body is to start being kinder to yourself. Set yourself the challenge of saying 5 positive things about your appearance when you look in the mirror every morning. It can seem counter-intuitive at first, but it gets easier over time. Once you start saying these positive things out loud, you’ll start to shut out the negative thoughts which probably circulate your mind regularly.
Of course, staying healthy is one of the best ways to look after your body and your mind. It’s not all about achieving a super slim waistline. In fact, being underweight is just as physically and mentally damaging as being overweight. The goal is to simply achieve and maintain a healthy weight level. Not only will it have the physical benefits of improving your appearance and your bodily health but it’ll also improve your mental state. Exercising releases endorphins in the brain, so that’ll improve your psychological health, and eating well improves your mindset too (your gut influences your mind, so this makes sense). Remember, don’t treat a healthy lifestyle as a chore. Treat yourself too. It’s worth taking some regular breaks for massages and other bodily rewards.
Great hair can be Your hair.
As mentioned in the introduction, it can be hard to feel confident about your hair. There’s a reason as to why the concept of a “good hair day” has become prevalent in modern culture. It may seem like a rarity for most of us. Yet, some people seem to have luscious locks on a permanent basis. How do they manage it? Well, as with everything else, it comes down to looking after yourself. Treat your hair kindly. Don’t brush it excessively, let it dry naturally rather than using a hairdryer, and so on. Let your hair breathe, in other words. And learn to embrace its natural state. This is probably the hardest tip and the one I fail at regularly.
Embrace what nature gave you. If you are like me and have curly hair maybe you just need some guidance. I watched my sister go from daily straightening to the curls she had as a baby. You might want to check out these tips for curly hair. You don’t have to conform to society’s expectations and straighten your hair. Your natural appearance can be beautiful if you properly embrace it.
Your skin.
You should also focus on looking after your skin if you want to feel confident about your overall appearance. It’s easy to let this aspect of your appearance slip, but it should be just as important as any other. Certain products certainly help, but you should make sure you only buy cosmetic products with natural and organic benefits. Overloading your skin with toxins will only make it worse. One of the best ways to take care of your skin is to take care of your body. Drink plenty of water to keep yourself hydrated; this will give your skin a healthy glow. Avoid stress in your life too. Mental health problems can lead to acne developing. Your physical state reflects your emotional state, so it’s important to keep your mind as healthy as your body.
