Honestly, I have not made a pompom since elementary school until last week. I got a delivery in my inbox and saw a really cute pompom wreath and I was hooked. Deciding right then and there a Valentine’s Pom Pom Wreath was in my future.
I literally ran to the car to head to Michael’s. Yarn and crafting tools were needed quickly. Good Golly I was making a non decomesh wreath to celebrate heart day.

Making a Wreath
Making the wreath was easy, determining the colour scheme a total no brainer. Shades of pink and grey seemed to be the theme I was aiming for this year. Three skeins of yarn would allow me to alternate the palette as I saw fit.
Do you remember making pom poms as a child? Making the cardboard circle with the hole in the center? Apparently I have memory fail because when I searched making pompoms I was a bit taken aback.
I remember making circle wheels but not the style I am seeing today. I think like new math, the times have changed. No matter I found the most magical tool on Amazon ( and Michael’s). Cardboard circles be gone.
The Pom Pom Wheel
Isn’t this the most magical tool. A plastic wheel that makes the perfect size pom pom every time. I picked up a package of two but you can get a package of four on line. Better deal for the money and it allows varied sizes. More depth to your craft.
Creating the pom poms was easy. I alternated single colours, double colours and made a few tri-coloured balls. Sitting in front of the tv, is was like knitting with less concentration. Conversation was easy and unlike when I am on the computer I could engage in conversation. Pom Pom crafts allowed mingling and creativity.
For the wreath mold, I picked up a ready made sparkle heart form and removed the sparkle. Way cheaper and it allowed perfect spacing for tieing on the pom poms. A round metal one will also work if you cannot find a heart.

How to make a Valentines Wreath
Making the wreath is simple and is a matter of taste.
- decide on colour scheme
- decide on wreath shape
- make pom pom wreaths, I made 12 large and 12 medium
- vary the colour of the pom poms for interest
- leave a tail on each pom pom to allow it to be tied on form
- arrange pom poms to your taste
- tie each one on the form
- sit back and admire your wreath.
- find a great place to display.
It took me a few times of re-arranging the balls till I found a pattern I loved. My wreath already had a ribbon tie for hanging but you may want to add one to your form.
