It has been a while since I posted a recipe, so I thought I should share what may be a slightly time consuming one but trust me well worth the effort. Honestly folks it was exhausting taking pictures of Kent preparing a meal for me. This Homemade Braised Beef was well worth the effort. Braising is a simple technique that allows you to transform the cheap, tough cuts of beef into tender and delicious meals. Trust me this is worth the effort
Braised Beef
Real life sometimes creates amazing blogging moments and it also may create extreme blogging delays. Delays not always related to not sharing posts but rather towards posting particular posts. I tend to take pictures everywhere and of anything but often they do not make it to the blog. Braised Beef may have suffered that fate for a few years. Actually Braised beef was shared as an afterthought back in 2014 but it shared a post with a tasty soup. I mean who does that shares two recipes in one post? The main course was Braised Beef so let’s highlight the best.
How Do I make Braised Beef
Let’s start with quality ingredients.
1 1/2 lbs of lean beef cut into one inch cubes
1/4 c all purpose flour
2 tbsp vegetable oil
2 cups pearled onions, peeled and trimmed
2 c sliced carrots
2 c sliced celery
3 gloves garlic crushed
1 tbsp italian seasoning
1 c red wine
1 c crushed tomatoes
1/2 c beef broth
Creating the Braised Beef Dish
1) Toss cubes in flour seasoned with salt and pepper. In large non stick fry pan heat 1 tbsp oil until hot, saute meat a few pieces at a time until browned, set beef aside ( and doesn’t everyone need a bottle of Baileys on the counter)
2) add remaining oil to pan and cook vegetables over medium low heat for 10 minutes, covering pan with lid.
Add garlic and herbs for final 3 minutes of cook time.
3) Return beef to pan and pour in wine, bring to a boil. Allow wine to reduce by half. Add crushed tomatoes and broth, return to boil, cover and simmer for two hours or until beef is tender. Serve with mashed parsnips and potatoes or rice
Serve with a medium red or a medium white depending on your preference, we went with red.
