Summer is almost upon us and it is time to start talking summer treats. Time to get the sparkle back in my eye and that happens with a drink. Today that is a non alcoholic summer tradition. A thick and creamy Vanilla Milkshake says warm summer evenings and hot summer days.

Did that come across a tad over the top? Possibly demonstrating how desperate I am for summer time and some outdoor activities. While I would love nothing more than to head to the Ice Cream Parlour looks like I am homebound for a bit longer. Creating a tasty at home treat is my way of celebrating Summer.

Summr Lov’in Had me a Blast

15 months in lockdown in Ontario, minus a few small breaks. I am ready for some summer love. Or rather some summer treats. Ice Cream, BBQ, slushy cocktails or maybe creamy vanilla milkshakes. Honestly, forget the watch the waistline thoughts, this is time to celebrate and splurge.

In my mind I am embracing what I hope is a little less restrictive summer. Pool side with drink in hand is where you will find me. And what could be better than a pretty drink? Glam up the shake with chocolate, sprinkles and fun straws.

How to make a Creamy Vanilla Milkshake

Making a shake is simple and easy, needing just a few key ingredients, a fun glass and paper straws.

Directions:

  1. Pour rainbow sprinkles onto a shallow plate. Place a small ramekin, topside down, inside a small bowl wide enough to fit the top of each serving glass, as shown.

  2. Pour the mini-chocolate chips around the ramekin. (If unavailable, add one-half cup chocolate chips directly to the bowl.). Microwave on 50% power just until the chips melt, approximately 2-3 minutes. Check after 90 seconds to determine total microwave time.

  3. Remove from microwave and carefully break up any remaining solid pieces of chocolate with a fork. Dip the tops of each glass into the melted chocolate, and then roll the chocolate-coated edge in the rainbow sprinkles. Roll each glass edge until uniformly coated. Turn upright and set aside to dry.

  4. Add the ice cream, vanilla extract, and milk to a blender and blend until smooth. Add a little additional milk to reach the desired consistency, if desired.

  5. To serve, pour the milkshake into the prepared glasses and top with whipped cream, additional sprinkles, and a maraschino cherry. Enjoy!

Can I make it ahead of time?

Surprisingly, yes! Blend up your milkshake and pour it into your glass, then stick it back in the freezer. Just let it sit out for 5 minutes or so before it’s drinkable again! It’s an awesome party hack.

Can I make a milkshake without a blender?

Yes! And it’s easier than you think! Add your ice cream and milk to large bowl and use a rubber spatula to stir until the milk is incorporated and then pour into a glass. Simple!
