helping your family with a move pin

Retirement is a week away and that turns ones thoughts to new adventures, old memories and yes sometimes even relocation or a new home. After years of creating memories in ones home the thought of leaving all that behind can be pretty daunting.

I would be fibbing if I said the thought of moving hasn’t crossed my mind. And then I look at all of those years of gathering “stuff” and I get slightly overwhelmed lol. It is no longer just a pick up and go, unless you have the ability to not “love stuff” as much as I.

I figured if I was having a hard time with the thought maybe you struggle as well. Todays new topic, prepping for a move, just in case

Preparing to Move your Family

When you’re moving your family to a new home, there are certain things that you’re going to need to do. Moving can be quite a stressful time, but if you take your time, and if you do particular things then it doesn’t have to be.

Sit Them Down And Talk

First, sit them down and talk to them. It’s never easy to go from something that you know to something that you don’t, even if you are an adult.

However, this doesn’t mean that it’s not necessary, so how can you combat the fear? Well, we recommend that you sit down with them and talk them through everything. Don’t just tell them that you’re moving and that’s final, even though it is.

Explain to them why you’re moving. Talk to them about where you’re going and what it’s going to be like. Discuss what the new house is like and so on. They might still be a little resistant, but that’s okay. Remember we are all hesitant at first, but they will warm up when they’re in the new house.

Be Prepared To Make New Memories

When moving, you’ve got to be prepared to make some new memories. Of course, the old ones are still super important, but life is meant to be explored. There is so much more out there than simply what you have already created.

If you’re thinking about this, and trying to convince your children, then I recommend you cull together. Start going through your belongings and start getting rid of some old and unused items. Its true You can’t just move everything to the new place. We all need space to create new memories.

Of course, sometimes it’s too hard to say goodbye and that’s absolutely fine. You can use a site like https://www.storagearea.com/ to find the best storage facility near to the new house. Putting some of your items in there instead of taking them to your new home is a first step.

Reassure Them And Let Them Help

Finally, you need to reassure them and let them help with the move. If they feel more involved, they might feel better about the whole thing! You can find out more about this on a site like https://www.ahaparenting.com/ if you are interested.

I hope that you have found this article helpful. Have you discovered a few things that you need to think about when it comes to moving your family to a new home. It’s always a little more difficult when there are kids involved. But remember it’s just going to be a case of taking a different approach to the process.

Remember that times can be scary for kids when they don’t know what’s happening, so it’s your job to ensure they feel the best they can. We wish you the very best of luck, and hope that all goes well.
