buffalo chicken wings on a plate

Football and  Chicken Wings, can you think of one without the other?  As I sit here watching the game I start thinking of Super Bowl planning.  Today Instant Pot Buffalo Chicken Wings are on my mind and menu.

This year I will be snowside for the Super Bowl. We are not booked for a winter vacation yet so Ottawa is it. Regardless of where I am or what I have planned SuperBowl and Chicken wings are on the menu.

Menu planning for Super Bowl Sunday, got any ideas for me? Is there anything tastier than Instant Pot Chicken Wings or should I say Buffalo Chicken Wings done different?

Super Bowl and Ads

Before we discuss chicken wings let’s talk ads. Super bowl screams commercials and snacks right? OK yes it is supposed to scream football but it is also about the snacks and the ads.  Do you look forward to the ads you know will be running?  Here is a sad fact for you, Canadian stations do not carry the American commercials.

Tis a sad but true fact. we use to if we had satellite or cable get the American Channels but not anymore.  Local stations have priority so we do not get to see the ads streaming live.  Now I know the game is not about the ads but it kind of is.

Super Bowl Instant Pot Buffalo Chicken Wings

Kent loves his chicken wings and is always experimenting with new flavours.  He is a usually hotter then heck preferred wing man.  Me, well I lean more towards a sweet, remember my Dr Pepper Wings recipe?.  Just like my BBQ sauce preference give me sweet vs hot any day.

It is the age old Memphis vs Carolina BBQ challenge right? We have tried Lemon pepper wings and garlic sesame wings so how about Buffalo Wings For today’s experiment we went hot.

Super Bowl snacking at it’s finest. Chicken Wings with hot sauce and in the “IP” a tasty alternative to your traditional wings. These fall off the bone wings will have you clamouring for more. A tasty Instant Pot Buffalo Chicken Wings recipe you will want to save and test out next year when tailgating.

Instant Pot Recipes

Nothing beats the convenience of an Instant Pot® for quick, easy, and healthier chicken wings. Once cooked, a quick trip under the broiler is all you need to get that nice crispy finish.

You can save time by purchasing already-trimmed wings. However, you can save some money by trimming them yourself. See photo for approximate location of where to cut each whole wing. They are a little easier to trim AFTER they’ve been cooked. Immediately freeze the tips to make chicken stock later.

Chicken Wings Ingredients:

Lets gather the ingredients and get planning shall we:

  • 4-4½ lbs. chicken wings
  • 1 t. garlic powder, divided
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • 1 c. water
  • Sliced celery and carrots for serving

Buffalo Wing Sauce Ingredients:

1 c. Frank’s original hot sauce
½ c. unsalted butter, melted
½ t. garlic powder

Directions for Tasty Snacks:

  1. Sprinkle wings with the garlic powder and season with salt and black pepper, to taste. Place metal trivet inside Instant Pot and add one cup of water. Arrange seasoned buffalo chicken wings on top of the trivet before securing the cover in place. Switch the vent to “Sealing” and adjust the “Manual” setting to 8 minutes.
  2. While the wings cook, whisk the Frank’s hot sauce, melted butter, and remaining garlic powder in a medium bowl until thoroughly combined. Set aside.
  3. When done cooking, allow pressure to naturally release for 10 minutes, then do a quick release for any remaining steam. Carefully remove lid and transfer
wings to a large bowl. Set aside until just cool enough to handle.
  4. Meanwhile, position top oven rack in the top position and pre-heat broiler to high. Line a large, rimmed baking sheet with aluminum foil and place a wire cooling rack on top. Set aside.
  5. Pour 1/3 of the buffalo sauce on top of the wings and toss to coat. Transfer the wings to the wire rack on the prepared baking sheet and place under the broiler for 3-4 minutes or until the wings start to get crispy and develop some color. Turn the wings and repeat this process.
  6. Remove baking sheet from oven and toss the wings with half of the remaining buffalo sauce. There you have it Instant Pot Buffalo Chicken Wings are ready.
  7. Serve immediately with sliced celery and carrots and the remaining sauce on the side for dipping. Enjoy!

Note: This recipe is written for fresh or thawed wings. If using frozen wings, add 3-4 minutes to the active cook time.
