Le Germain Hotel has opened in Ottawa. Le Germain Hotel Ottawa is part of a 23-storey tower in the heart of the city, called the Arts Court redevelopment project. The hotel occupies the bottom 14 floors, with the upper nine floors being private condo residences known as ArtHaus by DevMcGill. The project is also the new home of the much-loved Ottawa Art Gallery, which opened its new space in April. And lucky for me I was invited to the grand opening and I am going to share just a piece of that with you.
Welcome Le Germain
This newest addition to the Le Germain properties is a 115 room Boutique hotel. It is the hotel’s second property in the capital city, following the arrival of the 148-room ‘no frills chic’ Alt Hotel Ottawa in 2016. The new opening is a debut for the company’s high-end ‘Le Germain’ brand and becomes the seventh such property under that portfolio in Canada. Today I will share the hotel, tomorrow I will share the food.
The Facilities at Le Germain Hotel
There is no question you will truly feel the difference when you enter the lobby, this boutique hotel opens it’s arms with welcome. The modern design is simple yet not stark, the grey tones have a warmth that envelopes you as you enter. Welcoming staff make you feel that you have come home after a long trip.
Featuring the Norca Restaurant and Bar, a state of the art fitness center and a concierge service bar none. There is also ample meeting space for those who have to combine a little business with their pleasure
The Rooms to Relax in at Le Germain
Le Germain describes their rooms as Intimate. Inspiring. Soothing. Stylish. And they are not kidding. The rooms feature ample yet serene lighting, a combination of raw and soft finishes in natural hues and fibres, and thoughtful touches that recall the comforts of home, each room is its own work of art. Plus let’s discuss the art…
If you check out Le Germain’s website you will discover that they proudly feature Canadian artists in all of their hotels. In Ottawa Julie Couture is prominently featured throughout.
Julie Couture’s Art
This Montrealer is passionate about visual arts in every form, moving from sculpture and drawing to photography. In her photos, she uses her artistic know-how to create shapes that appear to be in three dimensions while using only two.
Julie Couture tried out an innovative technique on her latest hotel in Ottawa. “My photos are printed on fabric, creating the room’s acoustics and replacing the carpet,” she says. The photographer immersed herself in the nation’s capital to capture the city in huge images (four metres by six metres). “I let Ottawa come to me. Then I worked on textures and motifs to make the piece as interesting up close as it is from a distance.” Another large-format piece is featured at the front desk.
The Simple and Elegant Room
During our visit, the hotel opened up the 11th floor for us to check out the featured rooms. Refined elegance is an understatement.
Starting with the Prestige Suite, spacious with additional comforts and conveniences, and offers spectacular view of Ottawa. One king bed, separate shower and bathtub, dining room and living room, powder room and reading area. Plus if you were watching my Inst Stories in June you would have seen the dressing area and the view it offers.
One of my favourite features, personalized water glasses in the rooms. I mean honestly what a fun touch.
Amenities at the Hotel Le Germain
Regardless of the room type you select you will be overwhelmed by the style and the comfort. Each room features a goose down comforter and feather pillows (You had me at feather), frette 100% Egyptian Cotton sheets and a Nespresso machine.
In each bathroom you will find a rainfall shower, 100% pima cotton towels, bathrobes and Molton Brown toiletries.
My Experience
Seeing the hotel is one thing, experiencing it quite another. Kent and I received a complimentary nights stay to experience the hotel for ourselves. Stay tuned for my Staycation post. I am pretty confident that my opinion of the room is not going to change.
Twenty York Streets Experience
Although I pride myself on sharing my personal experience I would be remiss if I did not redirect you to Twenty York Street. Marilou and Alan have shared their unique view and experience on the hotel, plus Alan’s photos are so much better than mine. Check out another Le Germain Ottawa Experience with Twenty York Street
Check into another Fun Ottawa Event where I got to sample Whiskey all night OR maybe an Escape Manor is more your style or maybe The Chateau Laurier? Or possibly a Pre Juno experience
