Well sticking to my theme of national Day this week, today is National Potato Day . Followed tomorrow by Kent’s Birthday. OK I know that is not a National Day for you but it is for us lol.  If you like spuds, this one’s for you! Never celebrated this tasty tot before? Well, this year is the year.

Potatoes

Did you know there are over 4000 different kinds of potatoes? It’s true! Choose your favorite or choose a bunch because potatoes are so tasty and easy to cook that no matter what you pick you won’t be wrong! And not being wrong is a wonderful way to celebrate anything, so try it out this August 19. FYI It is no surprise I am a potato fan, Irish roots aside.  I also come from the East Coast of Canada, home of McCains and Cavendish Farms.

Potatoes and New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island just go together, like chips and dip.

National Today, the internet’s #1 authority on National Days and holidays, surveyed 1,000 people about Potato Day and found some fun facts

  • Nearly one-in-four surveyed (22%) said curly fries are their favorite type of french fry.( FYI NOT ME)
  • Nearly half (46%) of all people surveyed pick Lay’s as their go-to bag of potato chips. (Totally me)
  • At over one-in-three (34%) people surveyed, McDonald’s is chosen more than any other fast food joint as the people’s favorite place for fries. (and hello what other fries are there)

Top Five Potato Dishes

According to Me, the expert of course, t there is no wrong way to prepare a potato. It is true start surfing or searching Pinterest if you don’t believe me. Plusbet your mom or gran have a million and one recipes for you to try. Select a favorite, chop to it and discover for yourself why this hot potato is such a hot commodity. Don’t forget to invite some friends and make it an event! This is a celebration, after all.

There is a crazy survey on all the best ways to prep a potato. I have to admit this one shocked me. Can you believe that Potato Salad did not make top five?  Is that a regional thing maybe. My list is slightly different and hash browns and tater tots would not really be there. Maybe I need to give them both a chance but my list has potato chips and potato salad.  OK it also has Potato Soup because Kent makes awesome soup.

Top Five:

  • French Fries
  • Mashed potatoes
  • Baked potato
  • Hash Browns
  • Tater Tots

You can check out the full survey results here: https://nationaltoday.com/national-potato-day/. And FYI I was redeemed because my soup and salad did make top ten phew.

Eat Potatoes Today

Today is the day celebrate the spud.  Now I am thinking of all the fun and crazy recipes we use to make. Anyone ever have Potato Fudge,  wow that is a flash back.  I think I may have to whip up a batch for the Blog

I don’t eat a lot of potatoes. I hope your husband has an awesome birthday.
