Before we chat about Nielsen Fitness I should bring you up to date with my personal fitness, or lack thereof.
I like to think I have a routine and healthy habits and then remember it is no longer 2015. Yikes, I think that was the last time I took my health and fitness seriously and boy can I feel it. Just want to throw a few home truths out there, even the skinniest of us can get pudgy and gain a belly or lump or two. My last successful voyage to fitness was when I was still doing the Breast Cancer Walk so I had motivation, plus I won a 12-week sculpt and fit that kicked my butt.
I have had a few short bouts of walking regularly, hitting the treadmill etc but slowly the pounds started creeping up and than-bang covid hit, The first seven months I did awesome, walked twice a day, watched the food and drink and stayed stable. Then we hit a cottage for a week and came back and I just lost all motivation for fitness. I watched the scale rise and the belly expand and I knew I needed to stop but dang the motivation just wasn’t there.
But now, I think I have found my mojo and it was all thanks to Nielsen Premium Fitness. An opportunity to try out working with a personal trainer online. I thought, I can do this, no not I can but I WILL do this. Retirement is months away and I am going to make sure I hit that time of life with vim, vigor and a renewed outlook on life. Watch out world this gal is coming back.
Nielsen Premiem Fitness
So let’s chat Nielsen Premium Fitness first. This is a Toronto based fitness company that specializes in on-line fitness as well as working with the 50-plus community. So hello, right up my alley.
What I liked about working with Nielsen Fitness was the time that they took to get to know me and understand my goals, not only physically but mentally. Lizette and I walked through my history, my fears, my motivation and even what I had available at home to adapt and make workouts interesting and fun.
My personal trainer, Lizette, met with me virtually in several different settings and times. Trying to figure out a routine for me that would work any time and anywhere. Heck, I even worked out in a hotel room before my business meetings one week. . She created an hour-long workout that challenged me and targeted areas I wanted to build, and utilize my current strengths. She was funny, encouraging and insightful. I loved the workouts and boy did she have me sweating.
So before I get into my “personal story” I thought I should address a few common questions you might have.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT VIRTUAL PERSONAL TRAINERS:
What is a virtual personal trainer?
Virtual personal trainers are very similar to face-to-face personal trainers. Although a virtual personal trainer is not in the same space as you, they are physically present online when a person is exercising. They provide workout plans, nutrition plans, correct form and give virtual advice to help individuals meet their fitness goals. They watch you, correct your movements and offer constant encouragement
How much is virtual personal training? per session? Monthly? packages?
Virtual personal training starts at $50/workout and can go up to $110 depending on the type of service (express, platinum, semi-private). You decide what package will not only fit your budget but address your needs.
Why Nielsen Fitness?
Since 2006 Nielsen Fitness has been serving clients in the comfort of their own homes with in-home personal training in Toronto. Today they also provide Virtual personal training across Canada and the world.
My experience working with a Nielsen Fitness virtual personal trainer was not actually much different than working with an in person trainer except well they are in my laptop. The tips, tricks and motivation provided feels the same as it did when I had a personal trainer in 2007, except no touching.
The Benefits of an OnLine Program
While there are many pros and cons to any type of program, there are really 4 main advantages to online
- Convenient- no commute, no extra time away from home. Your 40-60 minute workout is just that, plus the time to change.
- Motivating–having someone push you even through the screen is enough to keep you going. My own pride made me want to finish each set because someone was watching me.
- Saves Money- similar to convenient, the lack of a commute not only saves time, it saves money. No parking cost, no gas, no wear and tear on your vehicle.
- Keeps You Accountable-investing in the service and having an actual appointment booked sure made me show up. Even when I was tired and sore, I still could not cancel.
My Personal Fitness Experience
So, back to me, because hey it is my space right? Nielsen Fitness reached out to see if I might be interested in trying their program, and hey did that come at the right time. Feeling at an all-time low physically I thought this would be the kick in the pants I needed.
I re-arranged my schedule and booked the four sessions for various times and yes once on the road. Truth be told I will confess I’m not a morning person so that one session wasn’t as much as I wanted it to be. My fault totally because I just cannot get up, fuel my body and then exercise in a short time frame. I am definately an “end of the day” or “middle of the day” exerciser.
I also misjudged my strength and stamina and may have been better served with a 20-30 minute session to start me off. The experience itself I cannot speak more highly about; The follow up, the personal touch and the fact the exercises were built for this 50+ body. BUT you don’t have to be “more senior” to join, they just have developed some special routines for us.
And as a bonus, I received a fun welcome gift, exercise bands which I have started incorporating into my routine.
Today’s Workout Update
Have I continued with the program, well honestly I am still debating that piece but I am continuing to exercise and have started watching my diet again. This gal is continuing to move forward with a new and improved lifestyle.
If you want to give it a go, they have a promotion of a free fitness assessment and first workout! Head to their website and sign up and try it out!
