I cannot believe it is Wednesday already. Where are the days going? I am in Toronto on a training session and lets just say it has been an interesting week already. I know that bloggers are encouraged to always remain kind on line, be careful what we say about brands but I have a story from hell I want to share.
Westin Harbourcastle in Toronto
So begins my hotel saga and my sad awakening to the real world. I have stayed at the Westin before and truly enjoyed my stay. In fact last December I was there for a similar conference and found the staff wonderful and the hotel lovely. Spacious rooms, gorgeous lobby and fantastic conference facilities. Unfortunately as we all know it only takes one horrid experience to undo even the greatest of reputations.
Let’s start back on October the 12th when I contacted the Westin and booked a room for two nights. I did use a conference code as requested but I want to emphasize the room was in my name and on my credit card. A confirmation was received and I believed all was set.
Fast forward to December 1st when I received and email at 3:55 in the afternoon telling me that I had been moved to another hotel and the Westin was sorry but they had arranged for us to be moved via the Conference Organizers. Now normally I am an accommodating person but my room was not booked through the conference so I did not appreciate them undertaking this change without my agreement. I contacted the hotel and found out there actually was availability on MOnday but they would not honour my rate. WTF but I rebooked at a slightly higher rate in the hope that I would be able to get it extended once I checked in. While at a conference I do not want to be in a hotel 25 minutes away, I booked at the Westin so I would be on site.
Now the moving me if oversold was not the frustrating issue, its the fact that their was availability but the hotel did not want to honour the conference rate. Hmmm that is a bit of a slimy act.
It gets worse, I check into extending my stay and lo and behold there is a room available but for 450.00, a double WTF is running through my head now. So here is my question, what is the point of obtaining a confirmed reservation with a confirmed rate if they can just move you and then double and triple the rates.
Westin, if you had truly been overbooked and needed to move me then providing a specific explaination would have been appreciated. Telling me that you had moved me not to a location of my choice because you were oversold and then having availability, well now I am just left with a bad taste in my mouth.
Let’s backtrack for a minute, I am very familiar with hotel policies. I understand thar a hotel is obligated to find alternate arrangements for you if a room/hotel is oversold. I also totally understand that with some hotel reward programs there may be a time when someone gets bumped due to a loyalty member requiring a room. What I do not understand is how someone can be bumped while there is still room at the inn. Charging a higher rate because you think you can make more money is not just bad for business it feels dirty.
For me my view of the hotel has been tarnished, Your rooms may be pretty and the lobby spacious but no amount of pretty makeup is going to make you attractive to me anymore.
Have you had a bad hotel experience?? I honestly in 25 years of business travel I have never had something like this happen before
Enough of my travel woes though right? Let’s get back to a little bit of outfit happiness.
Today I am going casual with my Wolverines purple cardigan and in leggings. The weather may have been damp and cool but I was feeling the office casual vibe. Wearing a 7Charming Sisters fun necklace and my Skechers Wedge Booties
