Happy Humpday, a day made better in red plaid pants with a side of floral. It’s easy to face anything when your outfit makes you smile, isn’t it? So today I thought I might take a little bit of a serious turn on the blog. Let’s talk health and diet. I think I may be adding a new section to the blog, hopefully it’s something that might be of interest to you.

Health Issues and living better
I went to the Dr for my physical 10 days ago. It’s crazy where the years go, I realized I had not had a full workup since we moved to the new house. It’s been almost ten years. I have had check ups but no blood work. Over the last few years I have noticed a slight decrease in my overall being.
It started four years ago with elevated blood pressure, I kept procrastinating on that one. I knew improved diet and exercise would help but I got lazy. Well this time I got a rude awakening. I did not skirt through the blood tests, i got the dreaded follow up call. Elevated sugars and my liver enzymes were off. It appears my high living diet has caught up with me.
Now neither are an issue that the doc believes need medication but they do require an improved diet and exercise. So this week I started a combination low carb/weight watchers regime. I seriously cannot go full out Atkins, 20 carbs a day for two weeks argggggggg. I can however work hard to reduce my carbs and watch what I eat. Doc says weight watchers is a good plan to follow. So I, which actually means us, will start living slightly healthier.
I figure my journey may be of interest and it’s a whole new start to healthy recipes. Who know maybe even a few exercise posts.
Weight Journey
As a gal who grew up starving herself and borderline anorexic it’s tough. I know everyone says they are just numbers on a scale and what matters is how you look and feel but for me that is total BS. The numbers do matter and they actually embarrass me. Size zero and 2 use to be too big, today I run an 8 through 14 depending on the store and style. That is an awfully unhealthy increase. When I moved to Ottawa eleven years ago I was 142 and thought I was 5’4″. That was a high weight for me but I had conquered the nicotine devil so that was OK. I joined WW and went down to 134 with little effort. I also was going to the gym and walking a lot. I was training for the 60 KM cancer walk which was a great motivator.
Fast forward to 2018 and I find out I am only 5’3.25″ and weighed 161.8 ( I appear to carry t quite well but it is still bad). Since going to the dr I have already lost 1.8 lbs and figure with the help and support of Kent I will get back to a healthy point.
Stay tuned as I stay honest through my weight loss get healthy journal.
Plaid Outfit Details
On a far lighter topic let’s talk Plaid. I ordered these pants end of season last year from Old Navy and I am totally in love. FYI these are an 8. I have worn them before and expect to see them again. Today I added the awesome blazer (large) I found at Target (worn before obviously)with a Henley tee from Old Navy (large) underneath. Boots are Forever 21. The necklace was from Zellers which indicates how long it’s been in my closet
Outdoor Outfits, or how you dress for work
It was a cold snowy day so I wore a wool cashmere parka I found at Fairweather’s almost 20 years ago. Still warm and cozy. I added a pair of plaid gloves from Old Navy.

I love the red & black flannel with floral – cute! I have a red & black flannel jacket, like a lumberjack’s! and I do miss chopping wood and having a wood stove and workboots. I’m trying to eat healthy, and I realize where my downfall is- snacking at night. Even after I’m tucked in, nose in book, favorite pillow, etc., if I haven’t had that snack…. I have a hard time falling asleep. It is good to be realistic for a goal, and realistic and moderate in getting there. I haven’t tried weight watchers, I see the recipes in their magazine and they look good.

I love the lumberjack plaid look. Snacking in the early evening s my issue, more habit than need and always candy. WW does work and is easy to follow
