There’s nothing quite like taking off on the open road with the world as your oyster and adventure your aim to make you feel truly alive, especially when you’ve spent a little time planning. And guess what we have time to pan right?
I am not sure what is is but road trips can be one of the greatest joys in life… if you do them right. Knowing where you want to go, what you want to do and well a dozen other things. I love trip planning almost as much as the trip itself. Today I thought we would talk ROAD TRIP BABY..
So take a look below for my top tips to make sure your first road trip is amazing:
Choose the right vehicle
Of course, you can head out in your own car if you like, but if you feel like you’re going to be cramped, uncomfortable or have a journey that is less than optimum, you may want to think about upgrading to something a bit roomier that’s built for life on the road, like the VW California, for example.
Decent campers can be rented for a reasonable price if you can’t afford to buy and they will certainly make life on the road a whole lot easier.
Be careful who you invite along
Good company can make a road trip even more amazing, but a poor travel companion can ruin the experience completely. On a road trip, you will be stuck together in a vehicle for many hours each day and if you’re with someone who complains a lot or has bad habits that annoy you or vice versa, that isn’t going to go well.
So, be sure to choose the right people to come along for the ride; the more laidback the travel buddies, the better your trip will be. We road tripped with Nic and Hails for two weeks. Driving from Ottawa to Virginia to Jacksonville to Orlando. Long trip but we had the right amount of space, preplanned the activities and had a blast.
Make a loose plan
On a road trip vacation, it makes sense to have some idea of where you’re going and what locations you want to visit along the way so you don’t end up getting too lost or missing out on the most important attractions. Summer Bay with the boys we played it by ear. Pool, mini golf and the football game. All other activities flowed from what we felt like doing.
However, it’s also a good idea to make your plans loose and flexible because when you’re on the road, chances are you’ll come along unexpected attractions or you’ll want to have more freedom to explore, and it’s often these unexpected detours that are the most fun. So, know where you’re going but don’t micromanage your every move.
Follow the sunrise to sunset rule
This is the rule that says you should make your journey by sunrise and settle down and park by sunset. It’s amazing how beautiful the sunrise is. How amazing you feel when you have the freedom of a road trip. Waking early will also help you to beat a lot of the traffic for a far smoother, happier journey.
Once the sun sets, knowing you have a place to stay for the night will enable you to fully relax. Enjoy meeting the locals in a bar or walking on the beach during moonlight. You won’t have to worry about where you’re sleeping and it will allow you to fully live in the moment.
Be Prepared For Emergencies
It’s essential to be prepared if you’re involved in a car accident or your car breaks down next to the road. If you’re planning a road trip, make sure you have the contact information for a car accident lawyer in case you’re involved in an accident. It’s also a good idea to keep a first-aid kit in your car and know the emergency numbers for the country you’re travelling in. If you’re involved in an accident, try to stay calm and call the police or ambulance as soon as possible. Getting into an accident can be a traumatizing experience, but being prepared can help you stay calm and avoid making things worse.
By following these simple tips, you can ensure that your first road trip is as amazing as you always thought it would be! Have fun!
