Well I discovered the art of pumpkin carving while I was in the Poconos. While carving pumpkins I also started thinking about Pumpkin desserts. How about a No Bake Pumpkin Cheesecake Mousse, self serve style. I digress though, let’s start at the beginning with the Pumpkin carving, we can work up an appetite and then make dessert.
Pumpkin Carving 101
Can you believe it I am 55 years old and just carved my first pumpkin. We went to Poconos Mountain Villas last weekend and they provided us with pumpkins and carving tools. Honestly how cool was that? It was a total first for me but holy moly not as easy as I expected.
Exploria Resorts reached out to see if I was interested in checking out the newly renovated Condos at Poconos Mountain Villas. Rewind a Little bit, if you recall Kent and I are Exploria Owners and usually vacation at Summer Bay.
Well when we discovered that Exploria had purchased the resort in the Poconos we had to check it out. A long weekend in the mountains, who wouldn’t love that.
I’ll be sharing all our experiences but for today let’s talk PUMPKINS. I mean it’s Halloween right?
Pumpkin Carving on Vacation
Who knew it would take so much effort to clean out a pumpkin? Apparently everyone except moi. The carving tools were OK it’s just my hands are totally weak. That also explains why Kent can prep my squash at Thanksgiving quicker than I.
Anyhoo back to carving.Truthfully hollowing out the pumpkin and scarping innards was not my fav part. Beer made it slightly better lol. Do you know how to properly carve a pumpkin? First step start at the bottoe not the top. I did not know that.
How to Carve a Pumpkin
- Cut into the pumpkin. Place your pumpkin on a solid surface you can wash (or spread newspaper to catch any drips)
- Pull out the guts and seeds.
- Draw your design or use a stencil
- Cut out your design.
- Insert a tealight and light up your pumpkin.
sounds so simple yet so complicated at the same time. A fun family activity that you can do even on vacation.
