Statesville North Carolina, not a place I had ever heard of but now one I will never forget. Talk about a happenstance, random action leading to such fun. On our way to Atlanta and the Peach Bowl we pulled over for Gas and saw a sign. OK Not that kind of sign peeps , I mean a real roadside sign. Southern Distilling with a finger pointing the way. Well we would not be the people we are if we ignored that sign. I mean the same thing happened with Jim Beam, we just saw the sign and went.
Southern Distilling, Their Story
Truly a grain-to-glass distillery, Southern Distilling Company is deeply rooted in heritage matched with boundless innovation in historic Statesville, North Carolina. Operating one of the largest state-of-the-art distilleries in the Southeast, they are conveniently located right off the interstate on I-77 at the I-40 crossroads. I can honestly speak to the convenience, really, we pulled off for gas and there it was in all it’s glory. They welcome guests and wondering tourists for tours & tastings daily on their beautiful 20-acre farm. They specialize in making quality-crafted, ultra-premium bourbons and rye whiskeys but also dabble in fruit brandies and other tasty products just for you!
It all started with a dream conceived on their family farm, Southern Distilling Company was founded by Pete and Vienna Barger in 2013 as a way to tap into home and heritage… and revive the legacy of these deep distilling roots.
Southern Distilling Tasting Room
What an amazing tasting room and store front. All glass letting the sun shine in and creating just a welcoming experience. A large wooden bar nestled against the brick wall. Allowing one to feel like they are at their favourite corner bar sampling some very tasty bourbons. The knowledgeable staff are willing to stop and chat, offer a suggestion or two and take you on a visit around. Plus if you are really lucky you might meet the new pup. His name is Case and Kent and I were introduced to him on the 29th when he was seven weeks old. Such a cute mascot.
Wondering around I was instantly smitten with the decor, I mean hello Red Trucks everywhere. Kent was smitten by the bourbon. Truth be told y’all know I am not a huge bourbon fan but this I really enjoyed. We did bring a bottle back so if you aren’t near Statesville but you are close to Ottawa stop in for a taste.
Southern Distillery
An impressive, modern two-story glass-fronted destination distillery houses a state-of-the-art craft distillery. Spacious may be understating the area, housed in 25,000 square feet, it is an impressive space. At 40 feet high, the tallest stainless steel and copper column still system in North Carolina is found inside the glass-enclosed production area. She is called Sweet Mother and by golly she surely is the sweetest thing. They also have a copper pot still system for handcrafted small batch and limited edition products. Some of the Carolina’s tastiest high quality bourbon, rye whiskey, brandies and other tasty products flow through their exclusive custom-designed “Double Barrel” spirit safe before being bottled by hand onsite.
Southern Distilling Store
The merchandise artfully arranged draws one in. I could not resist picking up a few fun souvenirs. The glassware is not just striking it is also very affordable. I mean very very affordable. We picked up a lovely glass ice bucket and souvenir glass. I mean if we are bringing home the bottle we should also taste it in a proper glass.
T Shirts, trucker hats, touques(beanies) all proudly carrying the trademark. In addition there was a sampling of mixes and other delights.
Let’s not forget the most important products the Bourbons. Reserve, Cask Strength, Single Barrel, Standard and my fav White Whisky. Word on the street has it there will also soon be a Bourbon Cream Liquor, that may call for another road trip to the Carolina’s for this family.
If in Statesville, drop in have a taste and discover for yourself the essence of the BCarolina Bourbon.
Events at Southern Distilling
The distillery tasting area and conference are apparently also available for rent. Book your event space for corporate meetings and special occasions. Imagine hosting your next business meeting…or your next wedding or birthday gala! How fun would it be? I wish we lived closer because Kent’s next Birthday Bash would be no longer hosted in my backyard.
Giveaways
Don’t forget I have a few current giveaways going on. Amazon, Starbucks, 300 in Paypal Cash Sephora 150.00 , 150.00 to Forever 21 and even Old Navy .Giveaway with lot’s more to come over the next few weeks.
