I am a huge fan of Terry’s Orange Chocolate so you can imagine how I felt when I realized it was perfect for baking.  About four years ago my sister shared a shortbread picture on her Facebook with Terry’s Orange Chocolate slices, Thank you Paula.  Well I knew what I was adding too my Christmas baking list.Terry’s Orange Chocolate Shortbread cookies of course.

Terry’s Orange Chocolate Shortbread

I originally tried to share this recipe four years ago when I first started blogging.  Good lord the pictures were horrendous. Part of the problem was the recipe only makes 20 cookies and they didn’t last long.  Remember this was 2014 and I did not realize you actually needed to bake, photograph, check pictures and only then let people eat.

This recipe is actually quite easy to make, and  really fun because you get to smash the orange. I mean who doesn’t love slapping that baby down on the counter.  So let’s get baking shall we?

Ingredients for the Shortbread

Check your cupboards, have what you need?

1 Cup margerine ( I use butter)
1/2 cup icing sugar ( also known as confectionery sugar)
1/2 tsp orange zest ( I usually skip this and they still taste great)
2 cups flour
1 Terry’s Chocolate Orange

How do you make Terry’s Orange Chocolate Shortbread?

Let’s start with the basics and preheat the oven shall we, Heat oven to 350

1)Break your orange into slices and break each slice in half, set aside.  No cheating you need all the pieces

2)Beat Butter and icing sugar in a large bowl until light and fluffy, add zest, gradually add in flour, beating well after each additional ingredient is added.

3) Shape dough into 1 1/2 inch balls, take a piece of chocolate and insert into ball make sure the chocolate piece is covered with the cookie dough, place two inches apart on baking sheet ( I always cover cookie sheet in parchment paper)

4)Flatten slightly

5)Bake cookies for 20 minutes, remove from oven and immediately place a piece of chocolate on each cookie.

6) Let cool on cookie sheet for three minutes.

Eat and enjoy

Hi Linda! Just found you through the Happiness is Homemade Link Party. These cookies look so good! I actually have 3 whole chocolate oranges left over from the holidays that I need to use up… Anyways, I’m Colleen from Bakes and Blunders (www.bakesandblunders.com) and I’d love if you could check out my site 🙂 Great recipe!

I have always only had plain shortbread cookies. The addition of the chocolate orange sounds like it would both enhance the sweetness as well as add some moistness. The touch of the Hershey's Hugs on top gives the dessert a whimsical feel.
