amarula coco for the holidays

Last Updated on 2021-05-09 by Linda

Christmas came a little early to my house this year. I happened to be one of the lucky three who won an AMARULA Holiday Barista Box and what a treat.  Not honestly sure what to expect but my gosh it was a fun pre-Christmas treat.  Included in the box was a few recipes that we just had to try, first up AMARULA Coco.

This tasty little cocktail will have you clamouring for a refill.  Well at least that was my reaction. And you know me and my cocktails, if I love it I share it.  Remember the Dude Shack, another tasty liquor cocktail for the cold weather.

Amarula coco

AMARULA  Cream

AMARULA is a premium spirit with an exotic natural taste, made from the fruit of the sacred Marula tree.  The tree grows wild and uncultivated in the subequatorial regions of Africa.

After I received the AMARULA Cream I had to check out the history of course. Here isna fun fact for you, Marula fruits are actually handpicked by local communities before being naturally fermented and distilled in copper pot stills. After that, the spirit is then matured for 2 years in aged oak barrels. Fermentation is what imparts the wood spice characteristics of vanilla and caramel into the spirit liquid.

These distinctive flavours are naturally enhanced by the addition of cream, to create a rich and velvety smooth taste.

ingredients for a tasty drink

What does marula fruit taste like?

Fully ripe marula fruits are tart, with a pleasant sweet-and-sour taste. In the centre of each fruit is a large nut stone, which contains a soft macadamia-like nut kernel. The highly nutritious kernels, which can be eaten raw and roasted, are rich in antioxidants.

What You Need for the AMARULA Coco

Now let’s get shaking shall we, time to create a fun cocktail.
    •  part Amarula Cream Liqueur
    • 1 part coconut water
    • crushed ice

adding Amarula

Here is another fun fact, while we get ready to sip our cocktail. The African marula tree  which is also locally called the Elephant tree or the Marriage Tree. Guess that explains the big hint on the label lol.
