You might not know this but Collingwood has an amazing selection of Craft Breweries, Cidery’s and Wineries.  Today we will explore Northwinds Brewery and over the next few weeks, we will hit them all.
Collingwood is our type of vacation spot. Plus lets not forget the scenery, great people and restaurants.  We had the opportunity to spend a week in the area in November. So now I want to give you a bit of insight into what we saw and did.  Plus maybe give you an urge to go visit.

The Collingwood Series

I am starting the Collingwood Series and will share all of the wonderful places we had a chance to visit and experience.  Travel Tuesdays is Back starting with this small town in Ontario
First up is Northwinds Brewery

Northwinds Brewery in Collingwood

Northwinds is located on First Street in Collingwood, not hard to miss at all.   It actually forms part of a perfect triangle, Pie, The Smoke Eatery and Northwinds, all form the perfect Bermuda Triangle that you hope you get caught in.
The Northwinds Brewhouse and Kitchen opened in August , 2014. They created a Micro Brewery and an amazing Restaurant all in one fine location. They take pride in the fact that their food is farm to table. Honestly who wouldn’t take pride in that fact.  Tasty food to go along with delicious beers.
The dining and bar areas of Northwinds Brewhouse and Kitchen consist of almost 2,000 square feet and has a capacity of 115 persons. The brewery says that the configuration of the tables and sections can accommodate any number of groups within this maximim capacity. Aside from bench seating which acts as a divider between the bar and dining room, the possibilities for seating is endless.

Northwinds Brewery and its growth

Exciting news hot off their website states Northwinds Brewpub and Craft Beer Store is commencing construction late summer 2016. They are building a new location in the heart of Blue Mountain Village. I guess that is a reason for us to head back.  A new updated post to show you what it looks like.
The concept for this location is different than Northwinds Brewhouse and Kitchen, however the great food, beer and people will be consistent in this new location. They were anticipating an opening in early 2017 and will release updates on the building progress between now and then.Inside the Northwinds Brewery and Kitchen in Collingwood and a skate of beer

Our Tasting Experience at the Brewery

We bellied up to the bar and enjoyed a flight of craft beers, we were not daring enough to try the skate of beers which actually is a skate board of craft beer tastings.

For our first visit we opted for the unknown, asking the server to surprise us with a selection of beers.  Starting our tasting with the Moonlit.  I think this one was my favourite but keep in mind I am not an IPA gal, so hoppy does not make me happy, What did surprise me was my new found interest in dark lagers, not something I was really willing to try in the past.

We went twice to Northwinds, once just for drinks after an amazing dinner at Pie and then for drinks and Taco night. That was a great experience.

Northwinds Store

I was amazed at the store, the amazing selection of Touques, the variety of beer, truly a fun experience for those who love to shop, eat and/or drink.  If you are in Collingwood this is a must try. Heck why not head to Collingwood and check it out.

I am thinking I really need to head back.  Check out the new brewery and see what the restaurant looks like.

Check out our other visits in the Collingwood Series. Northwinds, Creemore, Pie, The Smoke, Georgian, Coffin Ridge, Olive Oil
