The vase has forever been associated with home decor and often fine or high-end decor. Once upon a time a point of interest in every aristocrat’s home and that is no fairy tale lol. This was because vases can be incredibly ornate, complex and made out of very rare materials. However in current day, like NOW you can get a vase in just about any material.
Designs have also come a long way, with many of them being created in computers. Yet there is also an art to this, because 3D designers have made vases more beautiful and angular. The vase has gone through a strange cycle of being purely for show, then used to hold flowers and back again as a statement piece in your room.
If you would like to try your hands to a vase, you can make one at home for almost next to nothing. I mean hello I used an old sweater and a mason jar. There will of course be a variation of style in each one, so you need to get the right kind of materials yourself.
A Homemade Glass Mosaic Vase
To start you will need a glass bottle that is not too thick and not too thin. It should stand up and perhaps be the size of your forearm. Next up you need synthetic rubber. You can get this in a solution form which will allow you to smear it and act as a liquid.
Get the glass bottle and do the following steps.
- Clean the inside and outside of the bottle thoroughly. You’ll need the rubber to stick to the exterior as well as some tape for the design pattern.
- Cut some thin detailing tape into little strands and design a zigzag in multiple lines onto the glass bottle. You can alternatively stick some foam sheets that have been cut up into triangles and stick them onto the bottle.
- Next, get a popsicle stick to smear the synthetic rubber onto the bottle.
- You can then allow the rubber to set, then peel away the triangles or the table. This will give you a line design on the bottle.
The great thing about this design is that you can reverse the process. Stick the foam triangles onto the bottle using the synthetic rubber. This creates a mosaic design which is also 3D.
3D Printer Vases
The more creative you can be with a vase, the more you’ll want to make it at home. This is where 3d printers come in as they use filaments to make complex designs. Filaments are like the ink of the printer, and buying them in different colors allows you to make a whole collection of different kinds of vases. However it’s not just the colors, you can make the vase into lots of different shapes, sizes, designs and denseness. There are different kinds of 3D printers which all have their own unique capabilities. Smaller printers will be able to make small items that are very detailed, while larger printers might not be able to make such small items but can do large items in great detail.
For your vase, it’s wise to design it in 3D software so you can have as much detail as possible. The vase can be made into whatever interior and exterior design you wish. It’s something that you should explore as use different themes. Try out the simple, summer, spring vases before moving onto industrial and futuristic decor styles.
The classic way
Since time began, or so we believe, the best way to make beautiful vases has always been by hand. If you really want to make your own, you should find a pottery class which can teach you how. You can also buy equipment for your home, to make the vases at home once you have learned all you need to.
However the important bit for you is to also learn the various styles. Vases have been made for thousands and thousands of years. You can try your hand at an ancient Egyptian wine vase or even an Aztec snake vase. That seem o simple well let’s try a war time Greek vase or perhaps a simple ancient Rome vase instead. These kinds of styles you won’t find often in stores, so making them at home yourself is a great way to add to your own home.
It’s amazing how fast 3D printers have changed the modern decor standards. You can make literally anything you want, it all comes from your mind and design on the screen.
However you can also have fun with a glass mosaic style which doesn’t cost that much to make. Just be careful of the synthetic rubber, allow it to set and dry outside of the house. Don’t forget handmade with materials on hand. Honestly a sweater vase, a mason jar vase all are wonderful ways of DIYing too.
