Annie from The Ten spot® reached out to me to see if I was interested in checking out the Facilities. Of course I said No, ok kidding. I embraced the opportunity to check out this awesome little Beauty Bar in the Glebe. But before saying yes, fyi, I did check out their business practices. This is a company I can get behind. Read on to see why but in the meantime what would I like to try? I was leaning towards the brow and lash tinting, something new but then Annie suggested laser. Well darn, this was an opportunity not to miss. Possible this would be my time. Time to toss the razor and embrace the laser. How do you “Hair Remove”?
The Ten Spot and the Beauty Bar
Did you know that the first Ten spot® opened in 2006. Their mission was simple, bridge the gap between upscale spas and chopshops. They difference between those offering over-the-top services and those at the other end of the spectrum. Those places we often refer to as the cheap and oftentimes questionable chop shops. This niche has been the sweet spot for THE TEN SPOT®for the past decade.
The Ten Spot
THE TEN SPOT® created the “anti-spa” beauty bar concept in 2006. as the first on the scene to offer efficient yet impeccable services. executing literally thousands of impeccable services ever week. you might say they are really, really good at what they do.
Over the years they have put an incredible amount of effort and investment into making sure that the nail, waxing and facial services are the best around. Honestly no accident that they have been racking up “best of” awards in every city they have opened up in.
#FeelLikeATen
THE TEN SPOT® is the original anti spa® beauty bar. on a mission to make everyone #FeelLikeATen. This most amazing employee friendly beauty bar has many services available. Starting with:
- manis (maybe you have 15 mins, maybe you have 55. however long you’ve got, they have a mani for that)
- pedis (including gel – hello instant drying!)
- brow + lash tinting
- waxing – above the belt, below the belt + everything in between. they are famous for their signature brazilly® wax* (everything off or almost everything off, you decide!)
- threading (*available at most locations)
- laser! yep, that’s right. they have got the safest, fastest, most pain-free machine on the market. amazing “AF”results + you can pay as you go, on the go. they will get ya in and out in a cool minute!
What does it mean to #FeelLikeATen? The Company believes that everyone deserves to feel like a ten all the time. It’s all about confidence. Did you know a confident woman can do anything: nail her work projects, be a domestic goddess, and look fabulous doing it.
Why THE TEN SPOT® Matters to Me.
THE TEN SPOT® is never going to be the cheapest place to get you mani/pedi on, but will always be the best. its not just impeccable service quality, they are also really proud of our business practices. And for this gal that matters. Ya’ll know my history, I am Union Proud. Finding a company that believes a livable wage matters is of utmost importance to me.
In today’s society most “service and retail staff” are struggling to even make a living. Finding a company that believes as I do is important. They pay the esthetic experts a livable wage and commission. In addition, they give all their employees proper breaks, overtime pay, paid vacation time and benefits.
They also invest significant money into training their staff and offering additional education allowances per year.
Quality Matters and so Does Caring
Unfortunately a fair wage is not standard in the industry – and that means their costs may be significantly higher than your standard chop shop. The sad truth is that often the salons offering extreme bargains can only discount to such crazy rates because they are employing poor labour standards and taking avoidable risks with your health. All this just to get you in the door with their lower prices. You will never get a $30 mani/pedi at THE TEN SPOT®. That also is the reason I will only recommend THE TEN SPOT®
My Laser Experience
Let’s walk through my experience for a minute. Everyone was full of advise, gonna hurt like heck. You’ll be so red. Oh Lord it really hurts. Bottom line is I was a tad worried, but needlessly so.
After a lovely tour of the premises I was escorted in to the “laser room”. Sanne did everything possible to put me at ease. Explaining the process and walking me through my expectations and the expected results.
First step is explaining how laser works. Did you know it only works on dark hairs? If you have light hair, grey or white hair than laser is not for you. I happen to have dark hair so I was ok ( well dark hair that i wanted removed lol). Next up is the impact of tweezing versus shaving. If you have been tweezing the laser cannot remove that hair, resulting in you needing repeat sessions. Fortunately for me I have been using the trusty electric lady razor so I was good to go.
Sanne will examine the area to be “lasered” ensuring no external hairs. The razor needs to burn the follicles so you don’t want that happening on the outside. If needed she will gently shave the hair and then prep the skin.
I felt like I was in a tanning bed with my trusty little eye protectors.
The Results of Laser
Well I am two weeks hair free and very satisfied with the outcome. In fact I am tossing all the other “hair removal tools” in the garbage. Kissing the products good-bye and embracing the laser. This gal is hair free to date and looking to stay that way. No honestly it did not hurt. It is an odd feeling and I felt it most around my eye teeth area.
I was fortunate enough to not get the redness nor any sensitivity. I was told to use spf 50 for the next month and stay out of the sun. Good thing for me I wear SPF every day and it hasn’t stopped raining.
Anyway, If you happen to be in Ottawa Check out the location in the Glebe, you will not be disappointed.

Sounds like a nice spa. I used to do laser treatments on my legs but stopped.
