I am changing my “Tune” about my bedding. That’s right folks I have a new Tune Weighted Blanket and my sleep just got better. The not-so-secret solution to a better night’s rest is the claim and so far I have to agree.
TUNE is a Montreal based company that has been providing Canadians with premium quality therapeutic blankets. All blankets are quality tested to help ensure you get the best nights sleep!
What is a Weighted Blanket
Heavier than your average duvet, weighted blankets are proven to be a positive aid for those having trouble sleeping. The thought process is using deep pressure touch stimulation (DPTS), weighted blankets are shown to aid those with disorders such as ADHD, ASD,Insomnia, restless leg syndrome, PTSD and OCD.
The TUNE blanket consists of a premium soft, plush outer cover and an inner weighted core. On warmer nights, the inner weighted core can be removed for a cooler sleep. TUNE blankets are weighted with non-toxic glass beads, distributed across many pockets to ensure an even weight distribution.
What is my recommended Blanket Weight?
It is recommended that you get a blankets roughly 7-10% of the users bodyweight to get the optimal sleep inducing, comforting effect. Personal preference should be taken into consideration when selecting a weight.
On a positive note Tune guarantees if you have the wrong weight you can exchange the blanket for a different weight.
How Does A Weighted Blanket Work?
Thinking back to the best hug you’ve ever had, that’s how the company usually describes it. Me, well I say take the feeling you get when your cat or dog stretches out on top of you. That enveloping feeling stays with you without the animals restlessness. No cat kneading you just a warm steady pressure.
Plus you can move without disturbing anything but the blanket lol. Not sure about you bu I love when Lou lays on my lap but my legs fall asleep. Then I move and Lou gets upset and leaves and I am then left without my weighted comfort. Now I have the best of both worlds, at cuddles and a steady weight.
Surprisingly, being held or hugged is comforting for essentially the same reason why sleeping under a heavy blanket is so effective:
Deep touch pressure, which is gentle, constant pressure similar to a long hug, has a calming effect, relaxing the nervous system and stimulating hormones that regulate mood, sleep and more. This effect allows you to go from stressed and anxious to calm and peaceful completely naturally.
By boosting endorphins, weighted blankets may create a change in the body’s chemistry and decrease cortisol, the stress hormone. This is the hormone that creates the fight or flight instinct which can leave you feeling panicked, anxious and exhausted.
My Sleep time experience
So back to me because hello this is my blog right? I have been using the blanket for over a month and I love it. The zipper sides make it easy to readjust the beads and keep the blanket weight distributed.
The texture is as one would expect, soft and fuzzy, almost like a velour. Bet that comparison is dating me. The soft grey matches my bedding and adds an additional layer of luxury.
So want one of your own? I have paired up with Tune to offer one reader a blanket of their own.
