I attended the most beautiful wedding this weekend. My cousin got married and it was a spectacular affair. Everything was picture perfect including the day. My attire caused me the most angst. Searching for awedding appropriate dress proved very difficult. I even ran a Facebook poll for assistance.
Running a wedding dress appropriate poll is/was a bit of a fib. I did run a poll but actually I was just looking for validation. Everyone was supposed to pick this dress not the black and teal one. Ironically the majority of folks picked the opposite of what I wanted. Bit of a mislead right, ask what people like and then go with the opposite. Oh well, a few did agree with me and I hope all are not disappointed with my final choice.
Wedding Dress Appropriate
It is tough being a woman going to a wedding. Guys have it so very easy, wear a suit. The range of suitable is fairly limited. A Suit, A Tux or maybe a Blazer with dress pants, a man can be fairly confident depending on afternoon, evening or black tie exactly what will be acceptable. Plus as a bonus a suit can be worn over and over again and men’s attire for a wedding with the exception of a Tux are always work appropriate to dual purpose selection
A woman going to a wedding faces a more difficult decision. Most weddings do not call for a dress or outfit that are also work appropriate. Possibly I am being overly complicated in my thought process but I can’t be alone in this I hope. Cocktail Dress, Evening Dress, short, long, fancy, plain, so many possibilities.
Wedding Appropriate Attire
I have compiled a quick check list for determining what to wear to a wedding
- Location– if its a beach wedding, linen for men or a nice pair of pants and a shirt. Sundresses are appropriate for woman. Church/Chapel, remember it is a church so overly sexy may not be totally appropriate. ( Shawl can come in handy) Hotel or Reception Hall for the service- anything can go but use your judgement based on the next item Time.
- Time of Wedding– a morning or afternoon wedding normally call for what I would deem almost office appropriate, if you would wear it to work in an office then it is most likely suitable. An evening wedding normally calls for slightly dressier, moving into Cocktail dresses and even possibly an evening gown. Gauge your outfit based on the location and the time
- wedding invitation– the couple may provide a hint. Black Tie, White Tie, Casual Take a cue from the couple, it is their wedding and you do not want to be dressed inappropriately.
In-between the wedding and the reception I had Kent snap a few outfit pictures. I struggled so much over the outfit that I really wanted to be able to share the end result. A slight fashion snafu, my sweater got caught in my dress so I needed a little assistance. Ryan to the rescue.
I found the perfect dress at Laura’s and I could not be happier with the way it looked. My 7 Charming Sisters necklace (C/O) was a perfect match as were the cross over heels from K-Mart. I added a purse I picked up years ago at Winners.
I thought I should include Ryan and Meaghan in today’s post. How smashing do they look? Ryan’s suit is from RW & Co and Meaghan is wearing Le Chateau.
Kent is wearing Haggar from Head to Toe, except the shoes of course. They are Clark’s. Going to sign off today with a special shot of us with the Bride and Groom. Wasn’t she stunning?
