The one positive yet negative that comes with blogging is house and room envy. I mean it is a positive experience because of all the great ideas you can find, inspiration comes from a post, the backdrop of a picture or even a social media share. The negative comes with room envy where you want what they have, OFTEN. Have you seen many white bedrooms I say laughingly…….
I have been searching through all of my pictures for shoots of my bedroom pre the white renovation. Strangely I can find nothing or almost nothing. Totally weird for me not to have pictures especially because I have changed the colour scheme often. Trust me that I have gone from Blues and Golds, to cream, blue and brown, to dark brown and even at Christmas to Red. Always darker colours.
White Room Envy
Fast forward to know, I have been so envious ( well maybe the wrong word), I have been admiring all the white bedrooms on blogger posts and Instagram. Something about the starkness that is captivating. In addition, I swear every hotel in the world has switched to white. I understand the crispness and the wow factor but if I owned a hotel, no white baby. Black towels and linens I think would be optimal.
But for me in my own room with only one clean furbaby, white seemed possible. So one weekend while Kent was away, Linda decided to play. I hit up Homesense in search of white bedding. My thought process was white with charcoal sheets and black furry pillows.
Amending the plan
I found the perfect white bed in a bag and love it. Now on to accents. I could not find Charcoal or black sheets anywhere. Soft grey seemed a good choice and then i thought how about white and pink furry pillows. I did it, I bought them all. It is amazing how a white room can become far too girly with a pink furry pillow. It got relegated to the chair.
I picked up a few prints for the walls but then went hunting in my house for accent pieces. It is amazing how much white I had around the house. The lamps I had found at Target for the living room and totally did not work so they were in the spare room.
They worked perfectly with the room, the white ceramic were all actually “Blog Props” I had picked up so why not really use them right?
No Painting
I stuck with the existing curtains and wall colour until I truly committed to the white scheme. Now I really want a dark grey wall behind the bed with Metrie mouldings. How awesome would that look.
