Can a woman over 50 wear Athleisure? Ever ask yourself that question? Well let’s start out with women over 50 can wear anything they want. Damn the rules of society that people make up. I googled the what not to wear over 50 and ignoring the satirical articles stating nothing is forbidden there are a few “serious” posts out there. Truly there are people who really believe age is a number to restrict you. There are real rules of what you should or should not be doing. So I thought I would attempt to take the rules apart and examine if you those reading this blog really believe there should be a restriction.
What to wear after 50 and Athleisure
I have failed at following the rules, not just fashion rules oops. Anyone else with me in thinking these rules need to go the same place, no white after labour day, and don’t mix patterns went…. back in the history vault for things not to redo??
So let’s talk Athleisure and how it works at any age. First of all Athleisure is not wearing sweatpants to the office or dressing in a jogging suit to go to the movies. Athleisure is a trend in fashion in which clothing designed for workouts and other athletic activities is worn in other settings, such as at the workplace or at school. Clothing items that “look like athletic wear” and are characterized as “fashionable, dressed up sweats and exercise clothing”. The idea is that gym clothes are supposedly making their way out of the gym and becoming a larger part of people’s everyday wardrobes.
Adding a piece to your outfit is Athleisure, wearing a jogging suit with sneakers, that is dressing for the gym. So best advice, start small. Pick a piece that you love and plan your work outfit around it. It may mean starting with sneakers or a sweatshirt first.
Athleisure and my Look of the Day
I found these pants at Marshall’s and I was quite hesitant at first. Could I carry off the look. Now before you tell me to take my own advice, it had nothing to do with age. I wasn’t sure I could go the casual athleisure look. Then I realized the look is what you make it.
Add a plain tee and a fun cardigan and Athleisure is born. Complete the look with two tone brogues and a necklace and I am work appropriate.
Have you tried the look yet? Fan or Frenemy? Want to like but afraid to try? Where do you stand on this trend?
