Dipping my toe in the world of slow fashion. Guru For Life recently reached out to see if we could partner together. Well this gal will never turn down an opportunity to support local and look fashionable all at the same time. This Canadian Company creates the most amazing fashion pieces from repurposed Indian saris. My featured Jumpsuit is made of the a soft breezy material, perfect for the hot summer evenings.
Why Guru
Guru practices fair trade principles and is committed to creating clothing in an ethical manner. A different kind of fashion business giving customers an alternative to fast fashion.Working with local artisans and family run businesses in India for over two decades.
Guru’s Eco Wear Collection uses exquisite repurposed Indian saris. They have teamed up with skilled tailors who cut each piece by hand, one at a time. The garments are created to be as striking possible. This is done by the way they place the borders and Pallu (the loose end of the Sari) when cutting the fabric.
How about the back of this jumpsuit. It combines the concept of a shouldered suit with a fun tie back. I added a fun strap cami because I am more ” prudish” in my senior years. Showing too much cleavage was not the look I wanted today.
Guru’s Fashion Collection
The Fashion Collection is known for its prints and unique designs. On-trend styles while maintaining their roots allows them to create an original look and feel.
Fun Fact: Guru is recognized as the original designer of the Multi Wear Skirt. This versatile, eco-friendly, stunning skirt is made from repurposed saris. They can be transformed into 100 different styles. Whatever your whim…dress, tunic, top, vest, you can style it to suit yourself!
For moi, well how about this perfect jumpsuit. I can wear the legs long and flowing creating an elongated silhouette or tie thee legs at the ankle for a fun casual feel. I original wore a pair of strappy wedge sandals and later changed to a fun flat sandal for more comfort. The fact the legs have slits allowd me to tie the pants for a different look and feel.
Guru For Life
Guru was founded by Kathryn Boese 17 years ago with the expressed desire to create apparel to fit Canadian women and to work with small independent Indian & Nepali businesses. It continues to be her passion to uphold fair trade practices and ensure opportunities to positively impact lives. As a priority, over the years, they have maintained a focuse on the production of slow fashion.
Remember… the fast fashion industry is fuelled by insatiable demand for cheap clothing and accessories. Fast fashion has a devastating impact from sweatshops and child labour to pollution and global warming.
Slow Fashion means standing up against exploitation, family separation, slum cities and pollution.
Buy less, Choose well, Make it last ~ Vivienne Westwood
and I can kick my legs up for a great time….
Perfect for Poolside, quiet times at home or social events with friends. I wore this for my first Patio outing with friends and family last week.
