Who knew when I left town last Tuesday my Travel suit would become a focal point for so long. Honestly my Tuesday travel day to almost Whitehorse illustrated the importance of your Travel Outfit. But on a positive note, it inspired my new post Travel Style Over 50.
Looking great but feeling comfortable becomes key when plans go awry. I ended up spending way longer than I wanted in my uniform of choice.
Travel Outfit
I have mentioned a time or two the importance of what you wear when traveling. OK I have possibly lectured people in posts about looking like a sloth when heading on an airplane. Gone are the days when people use to take pride in their appearance.
Let’s not go to extremes, I mean the rules a “Stewardess” had to follow were extreme but one can still look nice. Sweat pants, yoga pants and leggings are just not suitable in my mind, plus they look awful on so many.
Remember leggings are not pants, would you wear pantyhose without a skirt, I don’t think so. Thus why would one ever think a glorified pair of leotards without feet would be suitable to stroll through an airport ( or a mall or heaven forbid the office).
I love pants for travel and these striped ones from Forever 21 are perfect. A slight bit of stretch that feel so comfy even when you have to wear them 20 hours and the next day too. Add a cami so that when the temperature is warm you can still be comfy and a fun lace cardigan.
Stay warm, stay cool stay stylish. I wear flat footwear, today was a fun pair of white booties but often I will wear a pair of converse. Add a simple necklace for a bit of flair and I am set.
Five Key Pieces to Make Travel Comfy
- Stylish but comfortable pants- once with a bit of lycra are great. Plus wear a pattern then if there is “spillage” it is camoflauged
- Pretty cami or tank, in case the cabin gets warm
- Cardigan for warmth and as the added piece for style
- scarf or necklace
- comfy shoes or boots. Remember comfy does not mean boring just something you can walk or run in if the plane is late. easy to slip on and off also help
There you have it five key pieces that will make you feel stylish while traveling, yet will take you from day to night and even to the next day if necessary. Small tip always keep a toothbrush, deodorant a a clean pair of undies in your bag. And any pills, retainers or anything else you cannot live without when you have an unexpected overnight stay without luggage.
Whitehorse Travel
My plane was late leaving Ottawa, then the Toronto portion got delayed. I wasn’t too worried believing there was a later flight into Whitehorse I could connect too. Funny thing travel to Whitehorse in the Summer is very popular. Air Canada actually booked me on a replacement flight 27 hours after my original flight. I was a tad bit unhappy but grew quite angry when they told me there were no rooms at the inn, aka no hotel availability.
I then waited three hours for luggage that never came because funny story it went to Whitehorse without me. So 14 hours after leaving Ottawa but not yet to Whitehorse I got a room for the night, booked on standby and spent a very tired quick evening in Vancouver.
Moral of the story, pack clean undies and always expect the unexpected. Travel delays are going to happen but stay calm, stay rational and it will all work out. PS I never yelled at anyone and only sent one sad tweet.
Whitehorse welcomed me with open arms on Wednesday and I ended up with a very successful group of meetings, so lemonade folks (with Vodka of course)

Love this look. You are the queen of black and white outfit. I still don’t under stand how people think that leggings are pants. Even if I’m wear high rise leggings. I still make sure I have a top on to cover my butt. Even if I’m just staying home.
