Woohoo I signed on to Pinterest this week and holy there were some pretty awesome changes. I have always been pinterest obsessed and trying to keep the aesthetic the way I wanted has been a challenge. The more I pin, the more boards I have, the more boards the harder it was to re-organize. Well imagine the happy dance I was doing this week, organizing my boards became easy, I was able to create a pretty header and I could dictate what came into my feed. Hello Instagram and Facebook maybe you should take a lesson from Pinterest. Imagine controlling whose feed you got to see and when, I know complete MIND BLOWN.
True confession I once spent hours maybe even days changing every Pinterest cover on every board to make it a pretty pastel. I have spent hours/days/weeks organizing my boards and many an hour anguishing over pretty covers. I know I am a bit Pinterest Crazed. Hello my name is Linda and I AM a Pinterest Addict.
Pinterest has served me well, I know it’s not a social media forum but rather a search engine but it still is just as addicting as Instagram. I never lost days searching google the way I seem to lose days searching on Pinterest. Pinterest however has always given back to me, it grows organically, it sends most of my traffic to my blog and it remains even to this day completely entertaining and engaging. Lately Pinterest has really stepped up it’s game and has implemented some amazing changes.
Let’s start with something we have all been longing for, OK well at least I have. Creating a Header for my Pinterest account. I am not sure about you but there is something about a striking header that makes one stand up and take notice, or at least stop scrolling. So hop over to your Pinterest account and take a look. Yep it looks different. Oh wait before I forget there was another front page change, Pinterest is not reporting your “follower count” it is now reporting your monthly viewers. How cool right? Now before you fret just hit your followers tab and you can still see the other number. My view is Pinterest values more your monthly then they do your “regular” . It’s all about eyes on your content.
Changing your Cover
So What do you think about your cover? Well it may not be your Brand Logo but it is able to be modified to your preference.
- Click on the pencil on the top right hand corner, see it?
- decide what look you want, latest pins, recent activity or maybe featuring one of your boards?
I went with A Labour of Life- Recipes to feature all my own recipes. I mean honestly Pinterest is the best search engine for recipes, crafts and travel right, so let’s give them what they want. I recommend picking a Board you want to highlight, better yet make a schedule and change this regularly.
Pinterest Featured Boards
Next up for having an effective Pinterest strategy to drive traffic to your blog is ” Featured Boards”. FYI, this picture was snapped two days ago before the Cover change. Now when you click on your profile you will not see the Followers nor Following and there will be a few viewing options. You want to click on ” Overview” and see the Featured Boards. Think about what you want people to see first when they hit your account. For me I like to show my Blog Board, maybe my recipe Board and a few seasonal boards. The best part of this “feature” you can change it at will.
Move your mouse over the Featured Boards area and you will see the edit pencil in the bottom right hand corner. Click on the edit and you can then select five boards you want to Feature. Driving people directly to Boards you want them to see first.
Creating a Personal Feed on Pinterest
One of the best features Pinterest has just added that I wish Social Media accounts would follow through on….. PERSONAL FEEDS. On Pinterest if you click on the P over beside Analytics then you will see a screens filled with Pins that Pinterest thinks you might be interested in based on what you have pinned and Boards you have. Which is a nice feature but sometimes don’t we want to actually just see what those we follow are pinning? I mean isn’t that why we follow them?
Well do you see the people icon beside the Search Bar? Look in your top right hand corner, see the peeps. well just click on them. Voila you now have a feed filled with only those you follow. Genius right? I mean honestly mind blown again that PINTEREST trusts me to find content I want all on my own. It’s like Mom extending my curview and treating me like a real adult.
Pinterest Boards and Organizing your Content
Organizing Boards has always been frustrating for me, probably because I have so many boards and the order is constantly changing. Well I now no longer have to drag and drop if I don’t want to. Pinterest has listened. Head to your Boards and over in the far right you will see “Sort Boards” with a drop down menu. Select how you want to sort your Boards, and guess what you no longer have to block off hours in your schedule to drag and drop. It’s a click of a mouse and people will see the Boards in the order you want them too.
Organizing Pinterest Boards
The fun doesn’t stop there folks, no it does not. Now you can actually organize within a board. So just in case you are like me and possibly have been pinning to a board for four or five years, well maybe the content is stale. Maybe you want to make it prettier, or more on point, or well, just less cumbersome. Click on a Board, anyone will do.
Click on the Organize button in the top right of the Board.
You now have the ability to select one, some or all and move, copy or delete.
Final Pinterest Tips
Remember Pinterest is a search engine and you want your content in fronto of the most people. Add Pinterest descriptions to your pictures, utilize hashtags effectively and above all make sure your Boards attract the most eyes. Think organized and attractive.
