It has been a weekend of lessons in Blogging Mistakes for Linda.Oops there is another lesson talking in third person totally does not work for me. This lovely Plaid Dress and gorgeous baby blue moto was not intended for today’s post.
Thus begins lesson number one. Curious as to where all of this may be going? Well keep reading and learn about camera blunders, plugin mistakes and life.
Outfit
I do adore this outfit let’s at least get that issue resolved. What’s not to love, summery plaid, pastels, plaids and awesome shoes. And of course an amazing necklace from 7 Charming Sisters. The outfit is summer perfect. Just not the outfit I intended for the Monday of a long weekend. I stepped out of my comfort zome and went out in a Atleisure outfit. An outfit with a jogging pants theme. Totally planned on shocking you because hello everyone has read my I hate Yoga Pants in public post right? My I am judging you for what you wear in public post.
We went to see Guardians of the Galaxy 2( AWESOME) and I went with a casual look. Totally out of the norm outfit for Linda. Well so begins my second lesson of the weekend ( first was a doozy and coming soon).
Shooting RAW
I have been reading a lot and by a lot I mean tons of articles on Food Photography. It is something I really want to improve. Bonus, I figured any photo courses would help all of my pictures. RAW is highly recommended. do not ask me why, I just know RAW is mentioned like always. My camera settings were adjusted, first I was saving in “S” and “RAW”. Genius that I was, I thought let’s just go RAW. I mean it is the thing to do right? WRONG.
Do not shoot in RAW if you use PICMONKEY and do not have Photoshop or lightroom. I know have a whole series of outfit posts in RAW and no editing software. Yes I am fully aware I can order software but who has time to learn when your post is already 12 hours overdue.
Plugins
Let’s discuss the most valuable lesson of all. Plugins and their updates ( almost as important as learning and converting to wordpress) . There is a reason WordPress warns you there are ” updates” available. It’s because you are supposed to be on top of your blog and all of the systems used to run said blog. You are being told there is an update because it is important to UPDATE. Protection from hackers, from bugs from glitches, all very important things to worry about.
On Sunday I signed on to my admin panel and discovered a blank screen of death, OK not blank just an awful FATAL ERROR message. HOLY CRAP I thought what happened. Then I went to look at my blog……… are you ready for this? Exact same message, A fatal error was all anyone could see.
Panic
To say I was panicked was an understatement, I think I was verging on tears. Kent tried to keep me calm but it was not working. The panic was such I forgot to even get a screen shoot to show you. Contemplated about half a dozen word press help sites but everyone of them is expensive ( worth it, I know) but none, I mean none work on Sunday.
I signed on to Bluehost and started digging around, scrolled through PINTEREST for helpful articles. Watched a ton of YouTube videos. All were informative but not for what I needed. Deep breath and somehow I realized that I had a plug in that I had not updated when told to and it was creating a fatal error. Darn plugin took my whole site down for I think 12 hours. Moral of the story UPDATE always, just like with your IPHONE, when the system says help me out with an update just do it.
Good Lesson
One positive lesson I learned through all of this, there are amazing shortcuts in wordpress. Did you know? Yes, I am sure you are all way more tech savvy than I am but wholly moly. Subheadings are a real necessity in SEO, I have learned that but I did not know the shortcut. I type in a heading and go back later and change the ” subheading”. Well “###” is my saviour. Depending on which subheading you want, you just type that many “number signs” in front of your heading and its authomatic. “#Panic” means Panic will be in subheading one, how awesome is that?
Camera
( and yep three number signs and Camera and sub heading is automatic)
I also learned where not to take pictures where the sun was positioned… but I think that will be a lesson for another day
Dress is Old Navy, Pumps are Shoe Dazzle and Jacket is Forever 21. Plus 7 Charming Sisters Necklace (labo20 for discount) Fitbit strap Amazon) Some of these pieces are no longer available but I have found some close subs if you are interested.
