Have you ever struggled with age appropriate meets office appropriate? Do you believe age can dictate style? I personally have never accepted that 50 is anything more than a number that may get more increased discounts,
Office appropriate attire means many things to many people. When I first entered the workforce a day or two ago office formal was the norm. In fact it was so strict that summer freedom meant the women did not have to wear pantyhose and men could go without ties. Picture that for a moment, feeling happy about not wearing pantyhose. Today in some locations people believe yoga pants and leggings are ok. Does it date me if I confess that I love to still dress for the office?
Office Appropriate
Fast forward to 2017 and the office uniform is no longer as prescriptive as it was in the 80’s. I make that statement with a bit of a grimace because office and the 80’s do seem a bit of an oxymoron. We wore suits, and my what suits they were, shoulder pads that would put a linebacker to shame, pleated pants, color block and peplums. Wait a minute, sounds kind of familiar doesn’t it. The styles of the 80’s modernized for 2017. In 2017 a suit is not a requirement for me but some variation seems to be my ” comfort look”
My Uniform
A blazer is part of my standard uniform or a cardigan or sweater. Offices are freezing in the summer and even in winter it can range from hot to cold, so an added layer is helpful plus its a finishing piece. Next up for me is a statement piece, normally that is a necklace but occasionally it may be great earrings and a bracelet. Hair can vary and then we have the shoes, or boots. The shoes for me may actually be the start of the unifrom not the end. I have been known to decide on the shoes and then build the outfit around my selection. Have you ever done that?
Today’s #fashionover50 look
This look from Wednesday consists of a summer dress I found at Target a few years ago. This Merona Dress has quite the story and I almost did not purchase it. It was the dress of 2014 popping up on bloggers everywhere, similar to the buffalo check one from Old Navy
The Merona Stripe was a huge hit in 2014. It was a hit with me because it has pockets. I love the colours, it is a navy and maroon but sometimes it seems almost red allowing me to vary the accessories I add.( I may switch up my selection) Today I added a cream Michael Kors blouse underneath to winterize the look and a blue classic blazer for layers. The addition of a maroon t strap pump from Shoe Dazzle and of course a multi strand of pearls.
I used a combination of a swedish braid and a fishtale braid in my hair creating a polished office look. My Question to you Age appropriate, Office Approriate or perfect for all ages in the office?
(
True confession, been a while since I wore heels so I may have only lasted a half day in the T-Starps and then I switched to these OTK beauties.

Linda, I always loved getting dressed up for the office, too, when I worked in an office. I did work in the financial district in Manhattan (aka on Wall Street), so professional attire was absolutely a must at all times with the occasional casual Friday, which probably equated to today’s business attire! This dress is so amazing! I love the classic stripes and the clean shape of it and it lends itself perfectly to layering the way you did. I also am a big fan of loads of pearls, so I adore your necklace! Thanks for linking up with me On the Edge!

I watched Working Girl for the first time a few years ago and couldn’t stop laughing at the hair and fashion! I hope I’m not laughing at my work outfits 20 years from now! Anyway, I love this stripe dress and your layered pearl necklace. Thanks for linking up with Fabulous Friday!
