Room 240 at the Chateau Laurier in Ottawa
Last Updated on 2018-10-31 by Linda
Hello and Happy Monday or should I say Hoppy Monday because it is Easter Week. I am winging my way back to Yellowknife today. I have another hearing cuz I am back to my normal job. That is not a disappointing thing to me folks, I love my job. I did enjoy the past year as the manager but I will not miss the added stressors. The people management side will be missed but c’est le vie. This weekend I had a staycation at the Fairmont Chateau Laurier. Let’s stress I had a staycation because Kent was working and “forced” to stay at the hotel.
Staying at the hotel meant I had no tripod so I made Kent take a few pictures at the end of the day (excuse the hair). He did a pretty bang up job for being forced into role of photographer. So he was teaching a course and I opted to stay with him. Thought a tour of our little room might be a cool way to start the week
Fairmont Chateau Laurier
The Fairmont Chateau Laurier is a 660,000-square-foot hotel with 429 guest rooms in Ottawa. It is situated at the corner of Rideau Street and Sussex Drive. The hotel is designed in the French Gothic Châteauesque style to complement the adjacent Parliament buildings. The hotel is above the Rideau Canal locks and overlooks the Ottawa River. The main dining room (now the Laurier Room) overlooks Major’s Hill Park. The reception rooms include the Wedgewood-blue Adam Room; the Laurier Room defined by Roman columns; the Empire-style ballroom and the Drawing Room featuring cream and gold plaster ornament. The hotel was designated a national historic site in 1980.
Corner Suite at Chateau Laurier
We had room 240, a lovely corner suite.Room 240 is probably my favourite room in the hotel. Although there are bigger suites and smaller rooms this one is perfect. The suite is on the second level which is high enough for a view but not to high that taking the stairs is an issue. Plus the staircase is something to enjoy.
The room is located at the front corner from the bedroom you have a lovely view of the Canal and Parliament. Turning to the parlour, you can view the War Monument on the right, the NAC and Canal straight ahead and of course the Rideau Centre to the left. What is not to love about that view.
Parlour Room
The parlour room is lovely, muted shades and gorgeous moldings. On a sunny day, sitting at the desk gazing out the window is lovely. Heck gazing out in any weather is lovely.
Bathroom
The Water closet is fully equipped with any thing you could want. If you forget anything call the front desk. The Chateau is equipped for anything. Special bonus feature if you are a Fairmont Club member you can even be equipped with runners and exercise wear ( and golf clubs). The showers features a double shower head and marble surround.
Bedroom
A very comfortable Queen Bed and luxurious linens help you fall asleep. If you leave the curtains open you can stare at the lights of the monument or Parliament. Two flat screen TV’s for quiet relaxation. Excuse the lighting but the sun was streaming in and I did not have the heart to close out spring.

The War Monument and Wellington Street
Outfit
So now that you feel totally sorry for what I had to do this weekend and knowing I am now heading to Yellowknife let’s switch gears and talk outfits. Friday was a casual day at the office. The Lily Morgan Floral Bomber from Giant Tiger seemed the perfect way to welcome spring. I tossed it over a Blush bluse also from GT Boutique and a pair of leather leggings. A black floral necklace seemed to work well.
I couldn’t resist using the stairwell at the Chateau, wish I had the proper lighting to really show it off for you. The stunning staircase, the original windows. The Chateau is without question a work of art. ( and the staff are wonderful)

Thank you for the fond memory! My father held my sweet 16 at The Laurier and we dined there weekly before and after. I’d forgotten as it was 34 years ago!
I REALLY like the black floral bomber! And WOAH what a fancy hotel! The view was spectacular!
